Working remotely has become commonplace for many firms as they navigate the ongoing effects of the pandemic. With projects continuing to move forward, offices and studios have adopted safer work practices to keep their teams connected and motivated. The continued evolution and iteration of approaching hybrid work environments has also become a growing reality for firms this year.

The idea of a workspace has transformed over the past decade, in large part, due to the emergence of co-working spaces like WeWork and Industrious. The shift has fueled the proliferation of the "open office," and the many documented problems associated with the setup. Is the pendulum ready to swing back to a focus on single-person workspaces?

Mitsubishi Estate Co., a Japanese real estate investment company, thinks so and has offered a potential solution to the problem of the open-office: a phone-booth-sized mini-workspace for one. Meet Telecube, the 13-square-foot, soundproof workspace that comes complete with a desk, seat, and power outlets.

In collaboration with office furniture maker Okamura Corp. and video-conferencing software vendor V-Cube Inc, Mistsubishi Estate Co. has unveiled plans to install 1,000 Telecube units by 2023. If you don't think you can handle another year on Earth, the possibility of dwelling comfortably on another planet is closer than you might expect. After announcing a winning design from Clouds Architecture Office and Space Exploration Architecture last October, NASA has released more detailed logistical plans for building a carbon dioxide insulated, ice-filled exterior home that could be assembled by robots in preparation for human habitation. The design uses naturally occurring resources found on Mars and predicts that with the planet's estimated daily water extraction rate, it would take about 400 days for the exterior to be filled with water. OFIS arhitekti's recently completed winter cabin on Mount Kanin, Slovenia (home country of our next First Lady) is about as isolated as you can get—its materials had to be helicoptered in, and visitors must scale the mountain on foot to reach it.

Once you do, you've got a shelter to view the gorgeous Slovenian and Italian landscape below, all the way to the Adriatic Sea. Don't forget to bring firewood though.

The weather on Mount Kanin can get pretty extreme, snowing up to ten meters in the winter, with snow persisting for over half the year. Not to mention powerful winds, landslides, and earthquakes, as well as numerous caves and abysses.
