Walkie Talkie Tower wins Carbuncle Cup for UK's worst building of the year

A City of London skyscraper, nicknamed the Walkie Talkie, has won the annual Carbuncle Cup, awarded to a building judged to be the UK's worst. In its short history, the 37-storey office tower has melted parked cars and critics have compared its three-storey roof garden to an airport terminal. Thomas Lane, who runs the awards, said the carbuncle "crashes into London's skyline like an unwelcome party guest".

KTH is considered Sweden's 'worst' architecture school

Sweden's Association of Architects asked students at KTH's Arkitekturhögskolan to rank their education. he survey found that the education at KTH was considered the worst. Sixty-six KTH students responded to the survey and about 70 percent said they were "not getting enough or any training at all in visualization and oral presentation". The same proportion of students also said the school was failing to teach them how to tie their architectural concepts together with actually erecting buildings.

Cramped rooms with low ceilings and one small window facing directly on to a brick wall. If you crane your neck, you can just about see the outside world. It could be a description of the cells in Pentonville Prison, but these are the conditions enjoyed just down the road from the Victorian jail in a new student accommodation block for University College London – today announced as winner of the Carbuncle Cup by Building Design magazine, for the worst building of the year.
