<p>The school shares: “<em>Publicness</em> refers to the power of architecture and design to shape our built environment for the benefit of society at large. It celebrates conditions of interaction, adaptability, collaboration, spontaneity, and openness.” </p>
<p><a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/4398903/hks-inc" target="_blank">HKS</a> Venues Design Director and Principal Lance Evans began the semester on January 29 with an overview of his work at the firm, including his role as the Lead Architect of <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/1659831/sofi-stadium" target="_blank">SoFi Stadium</a>. Evans was followed on February 12 by a discussion with Brooklyn's <a href="https://archinect.com/op-al" target="_blank">op.AL</a>. The series will continue on February 26 with <a href="https://archinect.com/AN.ONYMOUS" target="_blank">AN.ONYMOUS</a> founding principal Iman Ansari. <p>Previously, Jones served as former faculty at <a href="https://archinect.com/schools/cover/2023/texas-tech-university" target="_blank">Texas Tech University at Huckabee College of Architecture</a> in Lubbock and will be coming to campus as the school’s newest Professor of Practice. She had previously been employed as the <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/149955270/a-d-museum-appoints-dora-epstein-jones-as-new-executive-director" target="_blank">executive director</a> of Los Angeles’ <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/28121/a-d-museum" target="_blank">A+D Architecture and Design Museum</a> prior to her <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/150134799/dora-epstein-jones-appointed-as-chair-at-texas-tech-college-of-architecture" target="_blank">tenure</a> at Texas Tech, where she was instrumental in steering the development of a new research praxis for faculty that “forge[d] stronger interdisciplinary collaboration between architecture, philosophy, and history.”</p>

Urs Peter "Upe" Flueckiger is the new dean of the school, continuing in the role he stepped into in an interim capacity starting in the fall of last year. Flueckiger will take office effective on July 1st.</p>
<p>Hailing from Switzerland, Flueckiger has made a name for himself in academia beginning with his tenure as a lecturer at Texas Tech's College of Architecture in 1998. Since then, Flueckiger's academic work with both undergrad and graduate students has garnered multiple teaching awards from the school. He has also seen the successful publications of titles on conceptual artist Donald Judd and sustainability traditions within the cabin typology. </p>

<p>Hart comes from a particularly strong background of leadership, holding previous positions as a longtime member of the AIA’s Board of Directors in addition to serving as the 2011 president of the Texas Society of Architects. As a board member, Hart was responsible for organizing the AIA’s official COVID-19 business task force (which he co-chaired) and was also chair of the Public Outreach and Board Knowledge Committees in addition to serving as the moderator for the AIA’s Strategic Council in 2016.</p>

Succeeding current architecture chair Upe Flueckiger, Epstein Jones will begin in her new position on July 1.</p>
<p>Epstein Jones will also join the school as a faculty member to conduct scholarly research that “increases the knowledge and the operations of thought paradigms” and will create new processes that forge stronger interdisciplinary collaboration between architecture, philosophy, and history.</p>
<p>“A lot of relevant issues come together here [at TTU CoA], issues of cultural diversity, geographic and environmental issues, and of course, how we will design the built environment into the future. I'm excited to be here, to continue my practices in a research-oriented university, and to furthering essential discourses with my colleagues and beyond,” Epstein Jones said in a statement.<br></p>
