Night Time Is The Right Time | Until 15 August

In collaboration with the Mayor of London, this exhibition and event programme by the The Built Environment Trust explores our city after-hours. Looking at a range of reasons to be up after the sun, including social media and essential maintenance works, the exhibition will question the need and the potential of developing cities to work on a 24-hour basis.

The festival kicks off this week, and is an eclectic mix of informal and child-friendly installations and formal events including some challenging debates and panel discussions. After last week's intense and colourful Clerkenwell Design Week, we hope you've rested up over the bank holiday to tackle this month of architectural celebration... This exhibition, organised in collaboration between the Japan Foundation and the Barbican Centre, is the first major UK showcase of Japanese domestic Architecture between 1945 and now. Thornsett Road, designed by Allies & Morrison, completed in 2015 by architects was awarded the RIBA London Award this year. The business headquarters south London is, in part, a new building and in part a respectful response to the existing buildings and context. Following the preview last week , the Design Museum will be opening its doors on Thursday 24th November, with some fantastic new exhibitions.

Apart from this new addition to the cultural quarter, the week is packed full of talks and exhibitions exploring the role of the designer in our world. Whether that is the role of an architect within a place without architecture, or the role of designers in our changing capital.
