<p>Orff was <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/150039529/david-benjamin-of-the-living-and-kate-orff-of-scape-make-rolling-stone-s-list-for-the-25-people-shaping-the-future-in-tech-science-medicine-activism-and-more" target="_blank">previously included</a> on <em>Rolling Stone</em>'s list of “25 People Shaping the Future in Tech, Science, Medicine, Activism and More” in 2017, the same year she was awarded the <a href="https://archinect.com/news/bustler/6030/kate-orff-and-damon-rich-awarded-2017-macarthur-genius-grant-but-urban-design-was-the-real-winner" target="_blank">MacArthur "Genius" Grant</a> fellowship in a first for landscape architects nationwide.</p>

The two are the sole representatives of the architectural industry on a pair of lists that includes multiple online retailers, tech company leaders, houses of finance, and engineering concerns. </p>
<p><em>TIME</em> <a href="https://time.com/collection/time100-companies-2022/6159446/hok/" target="_blank">singled out</a> HOK’s <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/150202857/another-look-at-hok-s-new-la-guardia-airport-terminal" target="_blank">design</a> for the new Terminal B at New York's <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/628437/laguardia-airport" target="_blank">LaGuardia Airport</a>, saying it now constitutes “the gold standard for airport design moving forward.” </p>
<p>The magazine also selected Adjaye as one of its <a href="https://time.com/collection/time100-impact-awards/" target="_blank">2022 Impact Award</a> recipients for his innovative work across multiple typologies.</p>

This week, Gang was the sole architect to be included in the 2019 ‘TIME 100’ list, which recognizes the world's most influential individuals for their activism, innovation, and achievement. </p>
<p>“For Jeanne, architecture is not just a wondrous object. It’s a catalyst for change,” wrote actor and playwright Anna Deavere Smith in her TIME citation on Gang.<br></p>
<p>In recent years, Gang was named a <a href="https://bustler.net/news/6003/riba-announces-2018-international-fellows-honorary-fellows" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">2018 RIBA International Fellow</a>, has received the <a href="https://archinect.com/news/bustler/5957/jeanne-gang-named-winner-of-the-2017-marcus-prize-for-architecture" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">2017 Marcus Prize for Architecture</a>, and was the <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/149827841/jeanne-gang-wins-architect-of-the-year-in-2016-s-women-in-architecture-awards" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">2016 Architect of the Year</a> in the Women in Architecture Awards, among other accolades. Included in the lineup are a range of museums, parks, hotels, and restaurants that they believe are breaking new ground and offering truly extraordinary experiences. </p>
<p>Among the selected are a host of architectural gems designed by some of the profession's most notable stars. One of the entries on the list is <a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/577/herzog-de-meuron" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Herzog and de Meuron</a>'s <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/149959095/take-a-look-at-herzog-de-meuron-s-elbphilharmonie-in-hamburg" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Elbphilharmonie</a> in Hamburg, praised by the magazine for its show-stealing acoustics. Another is one of Los Angeles's hottest new restaurants, Vespertine. Designed by <a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/280/eric-owen-moss-architects" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Eric Owen Moss</a>, the magazine noted not only the restaurant's unusual dining experience, but also its unique architecture, describing the space as a "cross between a spaceship and a waffle."</p>

How can a design acknowledge, and embody, the weight of this monumental history and yet transcend it right before your eyes?</p></em><br /><br /><p>It feels like this is going to be yet another great year for David Adjaye. The architect, who back in January became Sir David Adjaye after receiving the Knights Bachelor award from the Queen of England, is the only architect on this year's "100 Most Influential People" list (a distinction previously held by <a href="http://archinect.com/firms/cover/39902/big-bjarke-ingels-group" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Bjarke Ingels</a> in 2016). </p>

On the contrary, he is the embodiment of a fully fledged new typology, which responds perfectly to the current zeitgeist. Bjarke is the first major architect who disconnected the profession completely from angst. He threw out the ballast and soared.</p></em><br /><br /><p>"With that, he is completely in tune with the thinkers of Silicon Valley, who want to make the world a better place without the existential hand-wringing that previous generations felt was crucial to earn utopianist credibility," writes Rem Koolhaas for <em>TIME</em>'s 2016 list of the "100 Most Influential People".</p><p>"We are friends," Koolhaas continues. "Once, during lunchtime, I used his office to prepare a competition presentation. (We lost.) On the menu that day was quiche. Wow, I wondered, so you can do great architecture without violating anyone’s comfort zone?"</p><p>Ingels once worked for Koolhaas at OMA before starting BIG. Since then, they've competed against each other for commissions.
