AJ, C.F. Møller may be getting new London headquarters after Piercy&Company proposes Telephone House demolition

The proposals are for the redevelopment of the site to replace the poor quality, office use building that is set-back from the street behind a perimeter fence, with a high-quality building that will activate all three street frontages and provide multiple functions, including co-working, retail, roof terraces and central gallery atrium.

According to the Architects' Journal whose offices would be affected by the planned demolition along with the London studio of C.F. Møller Architects, the new Piercy&Co-designed building aims to address "the challenges of climate change by creating an ultra-low carbon building and placing sustainability at the heart of the project." The developer promised a 50% reduction in operational carbon emissions when compared to others currently under construction and said an adaptation scheme was explored for a year before being replaced by the plan for new construction.

Boxpark opens in Croydon

Boxpark established itself in Shoreditch in 2011 and now, after five successful years, has opened a new venue in Croydon, designed by BDP.

The venture is part of the council's plan to transform the borough and create new public spaces. Next to East Croydon station, the venue, like the original site, offers dining as well as space for small independent traders.

Architect director at BDP Gavin Elliott said:

"Shipping containers are an intrinsic component of the Boxpark brand. There’s something quite magical about taking this mundane and ubiquitous object and turning it into something desirable and transformational. We’re using 96 containers in total and only four of them are unaltered. The whole assembly is like a giant 3D jigsaw puzzle but the finished result looks deceptively simple.

Sam Jacob to redevelop former pub in Shoreditch

Sam Jacob Studio’s mixed-use development in the Hoxton Street conservation area retains the façade of the Victorian pub originally on the site while creating ground-floor community facilities with an apartment above. The four-storey scheme will restore the last remaining piece of what was once a terraced street razed to the ground by bombing during the Second World War. The new block is expressed as a curved wall punctured by diamond-shaped window openings.
