The month-long event, organized each year by the <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/34491/center-for-architecture" target="_blank">Center for Architecture</a> in collaboration with partner organizations, includes the always-popular <em>Building of the Day</em> spotlight, offering architects a unique close-up inspection of superlative new projects in the region with tours led by architects and other design professionals.</p>

Celebrating its 10-year anniversary, the month-long celebration of architecture and design is presented as a hybrid virtual and in-person festival this year — allowing visitors to join <a href="https://2020.archtober.org/" target="_blank">events and activities</a> online from a safe distance, or even from outside of New York City. <br></p>
<p>Returning once again is Archtober's popular <em>Building of the Day</em> series, pandemic-adjusted for 2020 and held in an accessible, virtual format. Tours or presentations will be held Mondays through Fridays at midday and, for the first time, also include architecturally significant sites outside of the New York area as part of Archtober's new <em>Travel To</em> series.</p>

The new project, The Moscow That Never Was, lets visitors glimpse shelved Soviet landmarks as they should have appeared on Moscow’s streets using VR goggles.</p></em><br /><br /><p>The 2-hour virtual/augmented reality tours through central Moscow feature utopian architectural projects that never quite saw the light of day, including the infamous Palace of the Soviets (imagined as the world's tallest building, crowned with a 300-ft Lenin statue), an alternate Lenin Mausoleum, Stalin's eighth 'sisters' skyscraper in Zarayadye Park, the People's Commissariat of Heavy Industry HQ on Red Square, among others.</p>
