Below are 7 quick points from <a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/150078939/national-council-of-architectural-registration-boards-ncarb" target="_blank">NCARB</a>:</p>
<ol><li><strong>Start your NCARB Record.</strong> Logging experience hours toward the <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/150027903/how-to-begin-tracking-and-stay-on-top-of-your-axp-hours" target="_blank">Architectural Experience Program</a> (AXP) is an essential step in the path to licensure. An NCARB Record allows you to begin logging hours. It can be established at my.ncarb.org.</li><li><strong>Report summer experience</strong>. Many students participated in internships and other architectural work over the summer. Don't forget to report those hours!</li><li><strong>Find your licensing advisor.</strong> According to NCARB, all <a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/77832907/the-national-architectural-accrediting-board-naab" target="_blank">NAAB</a> accredited architecture programs are required to have an architect licensing advisor who can help explain the ins and ours of your education, experience, and examination requirements. </li><li><strong>Network and volunteer.</strong> Volunteering is a great option for <a href="https://archinect.com/features/article/150138202/the-importance-of-building-professional-relationships-in-architecture" target="_blank">networking</a> and it avoids the awkward cocktail hours and small talk. Now, individuals with non-linear career paths have the opportunity to complete the Architectural Experience Program (AXP) and become licensed architects. </p><p>The AXP Portfolio is NCARB’s way of reaching out to those who left the profession before becoming licensed, so that they have an opportunity to explore licensure again. <img src="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/ff/ff8332bdd6e6141e1f09687d80eca72a.png?fit=crop&auto=compress%2Cformat&enlarge=true&w=1200" border="0" /><p>After announcing last summer that it would <a href="http://archinect.com/news/article/127308891/ncarb-will-phase-out-the-intern-title" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">"sunset" the term "intern"</a> from its nomenclature, NCARB has now begun enacting that transition with the Intern Development Program, which will be renamed the Architectural Experience Program (AXP). The change will become effective on June 29 of this year.</p>
<p>NCARB is quick to remind architects (current and aspiring) that, as states still set their own terms for licensure, this update to the not-yet-an-architect label will not affect who may call themselves an "architect" – a term still reserved for those who are licensed. To minimize confusion, existing regulations that refer to the new AXP title will be accompanied by: "formerly known as the Intern Development Program, or IDP" – just like Prince.</p>
