Wolfgang Tschapeller awarded 2020 European Prize for Architecture

Famed Austrian architect, architectural philosopher, academic, and theorist, Wolfgang Tschapeller has been awarded the prestigious European Prize for Architecture. An annual award is given to living architects whose work reflects and exemplifies the "highest ideals of European civilization and embodies vision, commitment, and a profound respect for humanity and for the social and physical environment."

Presented by The Chicago Athenaeum president Christian Narkiewicz-Laine shares, "Wolfgang Tschapeller's works are stunning, dense, multifarious, complex, and remarkable achievements of the highest complexity."

Finalists Announced for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture—Mies van der Rohe Award

The European Commission and the Fundació Mies van der Rohe have revealed the five finalists for the 2017 European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture — Mies van der Rohe Award. The Award, the official architecture prize of the EU, comes with €60,000.

Santiago Calatrava wins The European Prize for Architecture

On November 17th, Santiago Calatrava, whose designs have inspired awe both for breaking aesthetic and financial boundaries, will be awarded The European Prize for Architecture at the World Trade Center in New York City. Calling Santiago Calatrava a "visionary theorist, philosopher and utopian and a true artist in the craft of engineering and architectonic expressionism" Chicago Athenaeum president Christian Narkiewicz-Laine went on to say that "it is significant that the European Prize for Architecture recognizes Mr. Calatrava as an architect, engineer, sculptor and painter." Past recipients of the prize include Bjarke Ingels (2010), and Alessandro Mendini (2014).
