2014 BERKELEY PRIZE Winners Announced

The winners of the 16th annual international BERKELEY PRIZE competition were just announced. The 2014 challenge revolved around the topic: 'The Architect and the Healthful Environment.' 141 undergraduate architecture students from 28 countries responded to this year’s call to describe examples of healthful and unhealthful environments in their respective cities and to compare them analytically.

Winners of the 15th annual BERKELEY PRIZE competition have been announced. The 2013 prize program focuses on the topic: 'The Architect and the Accessible City.' 152 architecture students from 26 countries responded to this year’s question: "Provide us with an overview of what is being done in your city to make it accessible to people who have physical disabilities. In your opinion as an architect, what more can be done?"

Berkeley Prize Announces 14th Annual Competition Cycle

Professor Raymond Lifchez, Chair of the international Berkeley Undergraduate Prize for Architectural Design Excellence announces that the 2012 BERKELEY PRIZE launches on September 15, 2011.

Each year the PRIZE, whose primary goal is to foster a larger awareness and understanding of the social art of architecture, sponsors an Essay Competition, a Travel Fellowship Competition, and an Architectural Design Fellowship Competition. All are open to undergraduates studying architecture throughout the world.

A total of USD12,500 in prize money is awarded to the Essay Competition winners with a guaranteed USD4000 first place prize. The Travel Fellow(s) is given round-trip air-fare and a stipend to attend a significant architectural event in the summer 2012. The Architectural Design Fellow(s) is given a USD2500 honorarium and money to fund prizes for a local design competition.

Winners of the Thirteenth Annual Berkeley Prize Competition were announced yesterday by Professor Raymond Lifchez, Chair of the Berkeley Undergraduate Prize for Architectural Design Excellence.

Since its founding, the international Berkeley Prize competition has encouraged undergraduate architecture students to write about issues central to the understanding of the social art of architecture and the social role of the architect in today's world.

The Prize now comprises three separate and distinct competitions: the Essay Competition; the Travel Fellowship Competition; and the Architectural Design Fellowship Competition.
