He embeds the concrete with capsules of limestone-producing bacteria, either Bacillus pseudofirmus&nbsp;or&nbsp;Sporosarcina pasteurii, along with calcium lactate. When the concrete cracks, air and moisture trigger the bacteria to begin munching on the calcium lactate.
