Gensler continues to lead the ranking of America's top-grossing architecture firms for the 11th year in a row

For the eleventh year in a row, Gensler has topped Architectural Record’s Top 300 U.S. Architecture Firms list. Together with Perkins&Will and HDR, the trio continue a three-year streak atop the rankings.

Gensler reported $1.37 billion in architectural revenue, which is more than double that of any other firm and an increase from the $1.32 billion reported in 2021. Perkins&Will brought in $572.5 million, which was followed by $454.7 million in earnings by HDR. AECOM saw one of the largest increases in revenue, from $337 million in 2021 to $434 million this year. The Los Angeles-based company jumped from eighth to fourth place in the rankings. Completing the top ten includes Jacobs, HKS, HOK, CannonDesign, Stantec, and Perkins Eastman. Among the top ten firms, half reported year-over-year increases in revenue.

Firms that saw notable declines in revenue include Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, which dipped from 13th to 18th place and LEO A DALY, which fell from 17th to 34th place. The ...

Global architecture firm Gensler has once again out earned all other practices in the United States. For the ninth year in a row, the San Francisco-based design giant has topped the list of Architectural Record's Top 300 U.S. Architecture Firms list. As typical, the 2020 list encompasses earnings for the previous year, 2019, and so does not capture any disruptions resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.

For the year 2019, Gensler took in $1.523 billion in revenue. Second place Perkins and Will brought in $670.23 million and third place firm HDR made $517.60 million. Rounding out the top five, Dallas-based Jacobs made $509.90 million while Los Angeles-based AECOM garnered $439.30 million. Following these firms are HKS, HOK, Stantec, SOM, and Perkins Eastman.

For the 6th consecutive year in a row, Gensler has topped Architectural Record's list of Top 300 firms. Companies are ranked by the total revenue for architectural services performed in 2016—for companies that offer other services as well, such as planning or engineering, earnings acquired through these offerings are not considered in the rankings. Gensler brought in a total architectural revenue of almost $1.2 billion dollars. To put that number in perspective, the next in line—AECOM—only brought in $595 million in architectural revenue, though their overall design revenue was $7.4 billion.

The top four spots all remained the same with Perkins + Will and Jacobs taking 3rd and 4th place, respectively. Out of the top 10 firms from last year, eight remained in this tier while IBI Group and Stantec Inc. both inched forward to join this category. Of all the firms, Corgan experienced the largest climb moving from 22nd place in 2016 to 14th.

Gensler surpasses $1 billion in revenue for 2014

Gensler surpassed $1 billion in architectural revenue in 2014, setting a record and maintaining its leading status for the fourth consecutive year on RECORD’s annual Top 300 Architecture Firms list, which ranks companies based on earnings from the prior year.

According to Architectural Record, Gensler definitely crushed it in 2014. The firm tallied $1.04B in architectural revenue last year, $778.5M of which was earned domestically. This jives with overall gains in the domestic architectural market, where firms' revenue grew approximately 6% from 2013-2014.

Coming in second place for the 2014 rankings was AECOM, which pulled in $801.5M. Gensler and AECOM have regularly occupied to spots on Architectural Record's rankings since the 2006 report, despite fluctuations from the Recession.
