Pedro & Juana's “Hórama Rama” cyclorama opens at MoMA PS1

After winning MoMA PS1's 2019 Young Architects Program this past March, “Hórama Rama” is now open to the public in time for summer festivities. Ana Paula Ruiz Galindo and Mecky Reuss of Mexico City-based studio Pedro & Juana designed the temporary installation as a 40-foot-high, 90-foot-wide cyclorama structure that immerses visitors into a jungle landscape.

The cyclorama has a panoramic image of a jungle on scaffolding that sits above the PS1 courtyard, which reconfigures the courtyard space into an immersive environment that allows visitors to move in and out of. The Mexico City-based practice Pedro&Juana has been selected as the winner of MoMA PS1's 2019 Young Architects Program. Run by Ana Paula Ruiz Galindo & Mecky Reuss, the duo's winning entry, titled Hórama Rama, beat out proposals by fellow finalists Matter Design, TO, Oana Stănescu and Akane Moriyama, and Low Design Office.

Dream the Combine's 'Hide & Seek" installation to provide interactive setting for Warm Up Summer Music Series at MoMA PS1

The eagerly-awaited, annual Warm Up series of concerts and events has launched, with an interactive setting provided by Minneapolis-based practice Dream the Combine, winners of this year’s MoMA PS1 Young Architect’s Program competition. Titled Hide & Seek, the winning installation, featuring a large-scale, network of mirrors, will activate the courtyard through September, playing host to more than 75 musical artists.

This year's construction, done in collaboration with Clayton Binkley of ARUP, features nine intersecting elements sprawled across the entire MoMA PS1 courtyard. Scriptive elements, ranging from trampolines to runways, invite visitors into performance and establish platforms for improvisation while the horizontal structures contain interactive mirrors, that move in the wind or with human touch.

Lots of summer blockbuster news to discuss on this week's podcast.
