ODA plans new residential development in East Williamsburg

ODA has revealed plans for a new residential project under construction in Brooklyn that will deliver 336 units of studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments. Their design for the Lorimer House and Copper Lofts in East Williamsburg calls for a triangular block-scale development connected by a bridge, surrounding three small interior courtyards and defined by curved corners that soften its form in response to the site's unique dimensions.

Other aspects of the project include a third-floor pocket park space that combines with an upper-level amenity lounge and a circular roof deck with landscaping to give residents a total of 26,000 square feet of outdoor areas. The building's facade is composed of brick with horizontal metal panels, vertical metallic piers, and a slab edge to create an appealing visual character completed by integrated planters, balconies, and recessed terraces.

ODA completes New York residential building with a glass box facade

ODA Architecture has completed a residential scheme at 101 West 14th Street in New York City defined by a glass box facade. The 13-story condominium holds 44 units between one and four bedrooms alongside 10,000 square feet of amenities, with interior design by Whitehall Interiors.

The building’s exterior features a glass box facade with fractal geometry to create a “sense of lightness, airiness, and depth,” according to ODA. Drawing inspiration from nature, the team says it arranged the glass boxes with gentle pattern recognition for a “natural soothing effect on our brains.”

Inside, the glass box facade translates as 18-foot-tall floor-to-ceiling glass walls, triple-paned to reduce noise interference from the surrounding city. Most units also include outdoor terraces “uniquely recessed in the geometric facade of the building,” creating fully covered outdoor private spaces.

Revisiting a booming city and building type that has garnered accolades of late, ODA-Architecture has just revealed details of another mixed-used high-rise tower project in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida — one of America’s fastest-growing communities.

The latest addition to the city’s skyline will feature a 1.1-million-square-foot cylindrical design located in the newly-developed Rio Vista neighborhood. The 633 SE 3rd Ave development is said to include a total of 830 residential units and another 13,000 square feet of commercial space situated on top of a podium lined with a recessed three-dimensional screen facade that doubles as a decorative element at night and covers a 951-capacity parking garage underneath.

Construction begins on ODA-designed residential tower along Billionaire's Row

Construction has begun on an ODA-designed residential tower along New York City’s Billionaire’s Row. The 175,000-square-foot building will sit at 126 East 57th Street, comprising 175 units. Nearly all of the residences will have private outdoor terraces, creating a pixelated effect across the cast-in-place concrete façade with projections and recesses.

The main entrance will be located on 57th Street and guide residents through a copper, mirrored gateway into a six-story-tall atrium with views of a landscaped courtyard. A gallery continues the journey to the lobby. An alternate entrance along 56th Street will feature a porte cochere for car drop-off.

ODA unveils renderings of two massive, mixed-use towers in Fort Lauderdale

New York-based architecture and design firm ODA-Architecture has released renderings of its Ombelle project, a pair of mixed-use towers in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Developer Dependable Equities tapped ODA to design the architecture, interiors, and landscape for the 1.5-million-square-foot structure.

The development, which comprises two mirrored 43-story towers, will offer 1,100 rental units, 11,217 square feet of retail space, and 27,837 square feet of indoor amenities. Ombelle is proposed to rise at 300 Northeast 3rd Avenue in the city’s growing Flagler Village neighborhood.

The two defining, sculpted towers rise from a 9-story podium, which is supported by a double-height colonnade. According to the architects, this reinforces a visual connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces and is aimed to foster public activity. The ground level is designed to house a mix of retail and restaurants, with open-air seating.

Design-versus-reality images show ODA's transformation of historic Rotterdam post office

New photographs have been released showing construction progress at POST Rotterdam, documenting the restoration and reinvention of a historic post office in the Dutch city. Designed by ODA with Omnam Group, the project sees the 100-year-old building transformed into a hotel, with accompanying retail, restaurants, two public plazas, and a 155-meter (500-foot) tall residential tower.

Among the architectural features showcased in the new images are the Great Hall, a 22.5-meter (75-foot) high vaulted room dating from 1916. Working with Braaksma & Roos Architectenbureau, the team has preserved and restored the space, whose ultimate role will be to serve as the project’s “public heart.” To make the hall more accessible, a new entrance is being added via a piazza-style courtyard from a former service entrance.

CRE publication The Real Deal has released its annual list of the ten most commercially successful firms in New York City’s high-profile building market. Most of our readers will recognize these firms as regulars in Archinect Jobs.

As the architects of record, these firms appeared in permitting documents for developments that totaled more than 13.5 million square feet in total area. TDR ranked the firms by the aggregated square footage of their business output.

SLCE took the top billing with 10 projects worth a total of 3.1 million square feet followed by Handel Architects, which had a total of five projects and 2.5 million square feet combined. The top two were followed by Perkins Eastman, which had six totaling 2 million square feet, including a planned 74-story development in Long Island City. ODA reveals designs for a dynamic new multi-volume tower in Fort Lauderdale

Renderings have been revealed for a head-turning tower that offers itself as a “new gateway” to one of South Florida’s fastest-growing communities.

ODA-Architecture is behind the newly-released plan for a massive 1.8-million-square-foot mixed-use development in Fort Lauderdale that would help enhance the city’s skyline with a dynamic 48-story tower defined by a dramatic open void.

The double-volume design is joined by a skybridge to create a split massing with 38 stories of penthouse offerings and 938 other private residential units atop a 10-story podium.

ODA New York-designed condominiums, 98 Front Street, have opened in the heart of DUMBO. The 10-story luxury condominium comprises 165 studio, one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom residences ranging in size from 400 to over 2,000 square feet. Asking prices for the homes range from approximately $650,000 to $4,000,000.

ODA Architecture designed a proposal to build a mixed-use district in Queens that would encompass five blocks. Dubbed “Innovation QNS,” the $2 billion project would bring 2,700 units of mixed-income housing, 250,000 square feet of creative office space, 200,000 square feet of retail, a new school, two acres of public open space, and new neighborhood amenities to Astoria.

Construction of ODA's 251 1st Street residential complex in Park Slope is now reaching completion, demonstrating fragmented massing which the firm believes imbues the structure with a "living facade."

There's another project coming to Manhattan that's even thinner: 303–305 E. 44th Street, designed by Eran Chen of ODA Architecture. At 47 feet wide, this one's the narrowest of the bunch. Developed by Triangle Assets, the tower will rise about 600 feet high, creating 115,000 square feet of residential space.
