ODA plans new residential development in East Williamsburg

Their design for the Lorimer House and Copper Lofts in East <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/252581/williamsburg" target="_blank">Williamsburg</a> calls for a triangular block-scale development connected by a bridge, surrounding three small interior courtyards and defined by curved corners that soften its form in response to the site's unique dimensions.</p>

The building's facade is composed of brick with horizontal metal panels, vertical metallic piers, and a slab edge to create an appealing visual character completed by integrated planters, balconies, and recessed terraces. </p>

The 13-story <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/460574/residential-architecture" target="_blank">condominium</a> holds 44 units between one and four bedrooms alongside 10,000 square feet of amenities, with interior design by <a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/95332448/whitehall-interiors-nyc" target="_blank">Whitehall Interiors</a>.</p>

Drawing inspiration from nature, the team says it arranged the glass boxes with gentle pattern recognition for a “natural soothing effect on our brains.”</p>

Lauderdale, Florida — one of America’s <a href="https://www.bizjournals.com/southflorida/news/2021/10/25/miami-fort-lauderdale-entrepreneur-fastest-growing.html" target="_blank">fastest-growing communities</a>.</p>
<p>The latest addition to the city’s skyline will feature a 1.1-million-square-foot cylindrical design located in the newly-developed Rio Vista neighborhood. The 633
SE 3rd Ave development is said to include a total of 830 residential units and another 13,000 square feet of commercial space situated on top of a podium lined with a recessed three-dimensional screen facade that doubles as a decorative element at night and covers a 951-capacity parking garage underneath.</p>

The 175,000-square-foot building will sit at 126 East 57th Street, comprising 175 units. Nearly all of the residences will have private outdoor terraces, creating a pixelated effect across the cast-in-place concrete façade with projections and recesses. </p>
<p>The main entrance will be located on 57th Street and guide residents through a copper, mirrored gateway into a six-story-tall atrium with views of a landscaped courtyard. A gallery continues the journey to the lobby. An alternate entrance along 56th Street will feature a porte cochere for car drop-off. </p>

Designed by <a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/105017616/oda-architecture" target="_blank">ODA</a> with Omnam Group, the project sees the 100-year-old building <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/10647/adaptive-reuse" target="_blank">transformed</a> into a hotel, with accompanying retail, restaurants, two public plazas, and a 155-meter (500-foot) tall residential tower.</p>

Working with Braaksma & Roos Architectenbureau, the team has preserved and restored the space, whose ultimate role will be to serve as the project’s “public heart.” To make the hall more accessible, a new entrance is being added via a piazza-style courtyard from a former service entrance.

Most of our readers will recognize these firms as regulars in <a href="https://archinect.com/jobs" target="_blank">Archinect Jobs</a>. </p>
<p>As the architects of record, these firms appeared in permitting documents for developments that totaled more than 13.5 million square feet in total area. <em>TDR</em> ranked the firms by the aggregated square footage of their business output. </p>
<p><a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/9432773/slce-architects" target="_blank">SLCE</a> took the top billing with 10 projects worth a total of 3.1 million square feet followed by <a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/2249/handel-architects-llp" target="_blank">Handel Architects</a>, which had a total of five projects and 2.5 million square feet combined. The 10-story luxury condominium comprises 165 studio, one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom residences ranging in size from 400 to over 2,000 square feet. Asking prices for the homes range from approximately $650,000 to $4,000,000.</p>
