There's still time to register for YAC - Young Architects Competitions’ latest contest IRELAND MEDITATION MINE, a competition of ideas aiming to recondition an Irish industrial archeological masterpiece into a meditation destination immersed in nature.

The cash prize of € 15,000 will be distributed to the winning proposals selected by an international jury panel composed of some of the most world-renowned architects, with the likes of, among others: Valerie Mulvin (Mccullough Mulvin Architects), Gong Dong (Vector Architects), Neil Hubbard (Heatherwick Studio), Rossana Hu (Neri & Hu), and more.

OFFICE KGDVS designs new headquarters for Belgian broadcaster VRT

Belgian architecture studio OFFICE Kersten Geers David Van Severen (KGDVS), in collaboration with Jaspers-Eyers Architects, has won a competition to design a new headquarters for Flemish Radio and Television (VRT) in the future Media Park in Brussels. The project is the result of a year-long competition, developed by a collective of firms dubbed VRT Morgen, which also includes: Bureau Bas Smets, Tractebel, CES, Ideal Acoustics, Willemen Construct, Jan De Nul Group, and EEG.

The competition, launched in February 2020, was part of the transformation of the Reyers district and the realization of mediapark.brussels. Seven construction teams submitted proposals. The VRT Morgen team was awarded the contract with a maximum construction cost of approximately $159 million.

The new VRT headquarters will span 65,000 square meters, with 40,000 square meters of that above ground. It is set to open in the summer of 2026. The new media house focuses on flexibility and cooperation, with spaces fo...

AIM Architecture has been crowned the overall winner of the 2021 AR Future Project Awards

The winners of The Architectural Review Future Project Awards 2021 have been announced with AIM Architecture being crowned the overall winner for their FX Mayr Wellness Eco Retreat project in Wenzhou, China. The firm also picked up the award for Hotels and Leisure with the project.

Showcasing projects from around the world, this awards program celebrates excellence in unbuilt and incomplete projects.

A slew of notable firms were awarded in the competition. The Jeu d’Esprit award was won by OPEN Architecture for their work on the Sun Tower in Yantai, China, and the Sustainability Prize was awarded to Zaha Hadid Architects for their Forest Green Rovers Eco Park Stadium in Stroud, UK.

What will airports of the future look like? Student winners of the 2020 Fentress Global Challenge explore the possibilities

The winners of the 2020 Fentress Global Challenge, an annual global student design competition launched in 2011 by Fentress Architects, have been announced. This year's competition challenge students to reimagine airport mobility in the year 2100. Over 100 projects were submitted. The first-place prize is $15,000, second place $3,000, third place $2,000, and the two People's Choice Awards will receive $1,000.

"A deep passion for design and a creative mindset are the cornerstone of any successful design competition submission,” said Curtis Fentress, FAIA, RIBA, Principal in Charge of Design at Fentress Architects in a statement. “Each year, the submissions we receive are more innovative, spirited and dynamic than the prior year, which shows an exciting outlook for the future of terminal design. We’re greatly impressed by this year’s winners and every submission we received."
