Chosen from a pool of 427 projects, the three winners and twenty honorable mentions offer visionary ideas for the future of vertical architecture, shaped by novel approaches to technology, materials, function, and aesthetics.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p>The top three projects were created by designers from South Korea, China, Austria, and Poland, with topics including the modification of weather conditions, the prevention of tsunamis in the Pacific, and the promotion of flora and microorganisms. </p> <p>Below, we take a closer look at the three winning entries, while the twenty honorable mentions have been republished in our image gallery at the end of the article. First launched in 2006, 2016 is expected to be another popular year attracting hundreds of submissions worldwide. Participants rethink the skyscraper by incorporating novel technologies, materials, programs, aesthetics, and spatial organizations. Additionally, they're strongly encouraged to consider globalization, adaptability, and the various issues of contemporary urban living in their designs.</p><p>The registration deadline is currently scheduled for January 19, 2016 and the submission deadline is January 26, 2016. In relation to that, eVolo Magazine hosted another year of their popular Skyscraper Competition, which gives participants worldwide the freedom to conjure up their own skyscrapers as a way to challenge how we understand vertical architecture and its relationship to the natural and built environment.</p><p>This year's competition brought in 408 entries from all seven continents, from vertical getaways, protective bio-habitats, arctic structures, to atmospheric labs.
