NEOM announces new Gidori resort and golf course satellite development — its tenth overall

A new golf resort concept has been revealed as the latest satellite development for NEOM, Saudi Arabia’s $500 billion+ experiment in urbanization and global luxury tourism.

'Gidori,' as it will be known, is designed to include an 18-hole course with a 200-unit residential component, 80-room hotel, beach club, and other sport and leisure facilities spread throughout a rocky coastal setting on the Gulf of Aqaba.

Architects Ignacio Gomez and Lama Al-Kharboush (both of Aedas) are mentioned in a promotional video as being the lead designers for the project.

It follows Leyja, Epicon, Siranna, Utamo, Norlana, and Aquellum as the latest addition to the NEOM family. Marketing for the project appears to be centered on its integration within the landscape. Foster + Partners unveils completed PGA Tour global headquarters

The new Foster + Partners-designed PGA Tour global headquarters in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida has officially opened. The building brings the entire organization under one roof for the first time. It focuses on health and wellbeing, with a design that blurs the boundaries between the surrounding landscape and the interior spaces. Shaded outdoor terraces and generous amenities allow for new ways of working and collaboration.

The project was first announced in 2018 and broke ground the following year. The $65 million complex was completed late last year, ready for full capacity by mid-February.

Nigel Dancey, Head of Studio at Foster + Partners, said: “On our very first visit to the site at Sawgrass, we were inspired by the quality of the landscape, the interplay of light and shade and the water. Foster + Partners designs new PGA TOUR global headquarters

First renderings have been revealed of the new Foster + Partners-designed PGA TOUR global headquarters in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. The proposed building will be consolidating workplaces of the more than 750 employees who currently occupy 17 buildings throughout the area, and provide enough capacity to accommodate several hundred more.

From the design brief: "Located to the south of TPC Sawgrass, the new 187,000 square-foot headquarters will be nestled within the verdant landscape and surrounded by a large freshwater lake, echoing the iconic ‘Island Green’ 17th hole at THE PLAYERS Stadium Course. Envisaged as the new Global Home of the PGA TOUR, the innovative building embraces new ways of working and collaboration in response to changing media landscapes and audiences, as the TOUR looks towards the future."

Turning Japan's golfing greens into solar farms

Japan has been hungry for alternative energy ever since the 2011 Fukushima disaster made nuclear power an unattractive option in the country, and golf courses just happen to be perfectly suited for solar power — they're large open spaces that often get lots of sunlight. Kyocera's first project, now under construction, is a 23 megawatt solar plant on a golf course in Kyoto prefecture. When it goes live in 2017, the plant will produce enough power for about 8,100 households.

Troon Golf, Waterstudio.NL and Dutch Docklands have announced plans to build a floating golf course in the Maldives islands, in the Indian Ocean, with holes connected by underwater tunnels.
