Several museum expansions and design research projects among National Endowment for the Humanities grant recipients

The National Endowment for the Humanities has announced the awarding of $35.63 million in grants for 258 humanities projects across the United States. As with previous years, the 2023 edition of the grants includes funding for several architecture-related projects, including buildings and research.

Architectural projects to be funded include the William A. Farnsworth Library and Art Museum, which will undergo a schematic design process for an expansion and renovation to its Rockland, Maine center. Meanwhile, the Shelburne Museum in Vermont will use the funding to design and construct a new Perry Center for Native American Art on its campus.

Following last week’s look at an opening for an Architectural Designer at Vessel Technologies, we are using this week’s edition of our Job Highlights series to explore an open position on Archinect Jobs for an Assistant Professor of XR Technologies at Arizona State University.

Based at the university’s California satellite campus in the former Los Angeles Herald Examiner Building, the role is housed within the Sidney Poitier New American Film School whose Narrative and Emerging Media Program is dedicated to “next-generation storytelling.” Calling for candidates with backgrounds in areas such as computer science, engineering, computational media, and media arts, the position will form an important part of the school’s mission to use digital technologies and extended reality (XR) in narratives and storytelling.

The Design School at ASU names Marc Neveu as new program head of architecture

Marc Neveu will be joining The Design School in Arizona State University’s Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts in fall 2018 as the new program head for the school’s innovative architecture program. As former chair of graduate and undergraduate architecture programs and current associate dean of the School of Architecture at Woodbury University in Los Angeles, Neveu brings a fresh perspective to The Design School’s rapidly evolving architecture program.

"Under Neveu’s leadership, the undergraduate program at Woodbury University was ranked nationally by Design Intelligence for the first time in the program’s history and has moved up in the rankings the last three years," explains a statement by ASU's The Design School. "Currently the executive editor of the biannual peer-reviewed Journal of Architectural Education, the former Fulbright fellow is a widely acclaimed educator and scholar whose research considers the role of history in contemporary praxis. His essays have been published in Architecture’s Appeal, with a forthcoming manuscript slated to be published this year."
