RIBA announces 85 shortlisted projects for 2017 London Awards

RIBA revealed a hefty shortlist for the 2017 London Awards today. Starting out with 215 hopeful submissions, the jury picked 85 to advance in the regional competition, including projects designed by David Chipperfield, AHMM, WilkinsonEyre, Coffey Architects, Fletcher Priest Architects, Grimshaw, Haworth Tompkins, Zaha Hadid Architects, Rogers Stirk Harbour & Partners, and many more notable contenders.

In the coming weeks, one of the five London juries working across the West, North, East, South East and South West areas of the city will visit all the shortlisted projects for further evaluation. Here's the full shortlist:

See the RIBA 2016 London Awards winners, Wilton's Music Hall named regional Building of the Year

RIBA revealed an array of projects as the winners of the 2016 London Awards during a recent ceremony. First launched in 1966, the yearly competition distinguishes some of the area's top-notch design projects in various architectural categories. While winning in the competitive London Awards is already a great honor, they're just the beginning of RIBA's yearlong awards cycle. Now, the London Awards winners will move on to compete in the RIBA National Awards.

A glimpse at the 2015 CTBUH Best Tall Buildings regional winners

While the work ethics behind constructing skyscrapers shouldn't be ignored, tall buildings are an architectural feat that will continue to capture the upward gazes and awe of many. Every year in the Best Tall Buildings awards, the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat rounds up a jury of industry experts to select the best recent structures that have contributed greatly to advancing tall-building construction.

Compared to 88 entries last year, 2015 brought in 123 submissions. Out of the nominated projects, one winner was selected in the four regional categories:

Get a glimpse of the 2015 RIBA regional London Awards winners

RIBA celebrated the winners of the 2015 London Awards, which highlights top-notch architectural design within the London capital region. Starting from 159 entries down to a final shortlist of 67 projects, 38 projects won awards during a recent evening ceremony at the National Theatre. A few of the winners scored extra in receiving London Special Awards, including the RIBA London Building of the Year Award.

The regional London Awards are considered an honor, but they're just the start of a series of RIBA competitions. Regional winners will be considered for the RIBA National Award. Once the National winners are announced in June, those winners will finally advance to compete for the coveted RIBA Stirling Prize for best building of the year.

The Holcim Awards 2014 announced the winners for the Latin America competition. During the recent awards ceremony in Medellín, 12 projects from throughout Latin America were recognized as models of sustainable construction that demonstrate the evolving state of sustainable construction and the Holcim Awards standards of environmental, social and economic performance...

The Latin America regional awards ceremony is the third in a series of five events following Moscow for Europe and Toronto for North America.

The regional Holcim Awards 2014 winners for North America

Following the European announcement, the North American regional winners for the Holcim Awards 2014 were recognized at a recent ceremony at Evergreen Brick Works in Toronto, Canada...The international jury led by Toshiko Mori (USA) highlighted 13 projects from across the U.S. and Canada, which altogether received US$330,000 in prize money.

Winning projects include those by students, emerging professionals, and leading practitioners — with some familiar names like BIG, the "Hy-Fi" by The Living's David Benjamin, Sheila Kennedy of KVA MATx, and NADAAA.
