The 700,000-square-foot building will become the largest fish market and have the largest <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/1193019/glulam" target="_blank">glulam</a> roof structure in the southern hemisphere once completed. Its PV-paneled roof is calibrated to withstand high wind loads while meeting the spatial demands required by the marketplace, is held in place by 594 beams, and is capable of harvesting rainwater throughout the year.</p>
<p>The project offers a worthy follow-up to the Danish firm's <a href="https://archinect.com/news/bustler/9542/3xn-s-upcycled-quay-quarter-tower-is-the-ctbuh-best-tall-building-worldwide-of-2023" target="_blank">award-winning</a> work on the upcycled Quay Quarter Tower in <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/124638/sydney" target="_blank">Sydney</a>. They are working locally with local architects <a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/63715960/bvn-architecture" target="_blank">BVN</a>, GXN Innovation, and the landscape architects Aspect Studios.</p>

<p>What will become Harvard’s first-ever <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/1038570/mass-timber" target="_blank">mass timber</a> structure is included as part of the larger 36-acre <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/150398867/harvard-s-new-enterprise-research-campus-breaks-ground-in-boston" target="_blank">Enterprise Research Campus</a> (or ERC) development that was announced last summer along with designs from <a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/327/mvrdv" target="_blank">MVRDV</a>, <a href="https://archinect.com/moodynolan" target="_blank">Moody Nolan</a>, and <a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/150065997/marlon-blackwell-architects" target="_blank">Marlon Blackwell</a>. It follows another creative higher ed timber design from Studio Gang, the new two-building campus expansion for the <a href="https://archinect.com/californiacollegeofthearts" target="_blank">California College of the Arts</a> (CCA) in San Francisco, which <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/150453353/studio-gang-unveils-a-new-creative-ecosystem-for-the-california-college-of-the-arts-in-san-francisco" target="_blank">was unveiled in November</a>.</p>

The $89 million project adds 60,000 square feet, effectively doubling the institution’s exhibition spaces while supporting a host of new programmatic inclusions for the public and arts community. OMA expects the new building to debut in 2025 alongside its <a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/11716526/kazuyo-sejima-ryue-nishizawa-sanaa" target="_blank">SANAA</a>-designed neighbor, whose facade's materiality is repeated while fusing laterally with the new structure on its second through fifth floors. </p>

<p>The 200,000-square-foot project expands the museum’s programmable exhibition space by 110,00 square feet and shelters the <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/150414828/it-s-a-go-for-zgf-s-space-shuttle-endeavour-installation-at-the-california-science-center" target="_blank">decommissioned Space Shuttle Endeavor </a>in a 200-foot-tall central space that organizes all three levels. Completion of the $425 million project is scheduled for mid-2025. Construction at the site began in <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/150312002/zgf-designs-new-home-for-space-shuttle-endeavour-in-los-angeles" target="_blank">June of 2022</a>. <a href="https://archinect.com/aruparchitects" target="_blank">Arup</a> is the engineering partner. <br></p>

The project, a "tribute to the rich garden heritage of Suzhou," includes 12 separate small pavilions, which are united by walkways covered by a sheltering envelope of ribboned roof eaves to form a village-like concept. It stands as the centerpiece of the ongoing Jinji Lake redevelopment. </p>
<p>"The result is a manmade maze of plants and artworks to get lost within," Bjarke Ingels commented on the design scheme created in collaboration with ARTS Group and <a href="https://archinect.com/frontinc" target="_blank">Front Inc</a>. "Its nodular logic only becomes distinctly discernible when viewed from the gondolas above."</p>

The mixed-use, 425,000-square-foot design includes 369 high-end apartments and over 100,000 square feet of workspaces in a distinctive 58-story silhouette that captures the scale and material character of its adjoining neighbors near Republic Square.</p>
<p>The building will open its doors to occupants by early February 2025. The interiors for ATX Tower were created by New York-based <a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/113105653/inc-architecture-design" target="_blank">INC Architecture & Design</a>.</p>

A ceremony held yesterday, June 11th, with the 44th President in attendance celebrated the progress on the <a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/1492/twbta-tod-williams-billie-tsien" target="_blank">TWBTA</a>-led project as it reached its culmination at 225 feet height just two years before its expected completion in the spring of 2026.</p>

<p>Once it is completed, the new landmark of the city’s South Side will anchor a 19.3-acre campus with a landscape design from <a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/12438/michael-van-valkenburgh-associates-inc" target="_blank">Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates</a>. Another key component, <a href="https://archinect.com/moodynolan" target="_blank">Moody Nolan</a>’s athletics center building, is also advancing towards a 2026 completion after <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/150419871/obama-presidential-center-pushes-opening-to-2026-moody-nolan-s-athletics-center-to-break-ground-this-month" target="_blank">breaking ground</a> in March. <a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/82907/maya-lin-studio" target="_blank">May Lin</a>’s engaging <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/150319838/maya-lin-s-next-sculptural-installation-will-grace-the-obama-presidential-library-in-chicago" target="_blank">water garden</a> installation will complete the program. The new campus gateway — one of the first projects of BIG's new Los Angeles office — seeks to enhance the college's research aims into neurology, genealogical studies, and climate change in preparation for an institutional turn towards its "next chapter." </p>
<p>Classrooms, lab spaces, and an open, column-free auditorium space are contained in each rotated rectangular block volume, complemented on the outside by rooftop terraces and public plaza areas "The Mall," "Art Square," and "Sciences Garden." BIG expects their design to be completed in 2025. It offers a worthy comparison to their previous Business Innovation Hub design at <a href="https://archinect.com/schools/cover/13926359/university-of-massachusetts-amherst" target="_blank">UMass Amherst</a> and is on track for a LEED Gold certification.</p>

When completed, the building will serve as a hub for the Belgian biopharmaceutical company UCB.</p>
<p>In <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/C6Jaz5CMvYY/?img_index=1" target="_blank">new photos</a> released by the firm, the project's <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/134886/cross-laminated-timber" target="_blank">cross-laminated timber</a> structure can be seen following its recent topping out. The CLT structure, described by Heatherwick Studio as “possibly one of the most complicated CLT structures in Europe,” took two years of design and eight months of construction to deliver. The novelty of the structure comes from its curved form, which serves not only as the main structure but the feature finish for the building.<br></p>

Named <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/150039181/sn-hetta-reveals-excavated-bronze-tower-that-will-be-the-upper-west-side-s-tallest" target="_blank">50 West 66th Street</a>, the scheme is described by Snøhetta as having a “striking geometry” with a “natural palette of refined materials.”</p>
<p>Archinect <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/150039181/sn-hetta-reveals-excavated-bronze-tower-that-will-be-the-upper-west-side-s-tallest" target="_blank">first reported on the development in 2017</a> upon the release of the design proposal, detailing the tower’s palette of textured limestone, glass storefronts, and bronze details. Externally, the facade is defined by what the designers call a “series of sculptural excavations, evocative of the chiseled stone of Manhattan’s geologic legacy.”</p>

<p>Designed by <a href="https://archinect.com/fosterandpartners" target="_blank">Foster + Partners</a> to feature the latest approaches ascendant in post-pandemic workplace design, the building is beset with flexible office configurations and wellness spaces. </p>

<p>Foster + Partners hopes the new building will follow its lead to become an equally revolutionary contribution to American <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/65945/office-design" target="_blank">office design</a>.<br></p>

The diagrid system also contributes to the building’s resilience against seismic activity and strong winds.<br></p>

<p>The program of the 164-foot tower is divided into three parts from the ground up. The semi-outdoor theater contained at its base gives way to a mid-level exhibition space that’s topped by a small library and viewing area on the uppermost floor. Its concave composite shell serves as "sound collector" while finally, a well-placed oculus at the top of the structure allows for rainwater to enter into a small pool that remains dry in the winter in order to be reused as a fireplace.</p>

<p>The project creates a new wing and community hub on the southwest side of the museum’s campus in <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/966548/exposition-park" target="_blank">Exposition Park</a> and will be open to the public by the end of next year following a multi-year construction phase.</p>
<p>The museum describes: “The indoor/outdoor NHM Commons spaces will enable NHM to expand its community-centered, co-created programming, thereby further connecting the public with science, nature, culture, heritage, and community, while creating opportunities for people to come together to experience NHM, with or without a ticket.”</p>

<p>According to Turner, more than 200,000 hours of work were performed by 350 workers to complete the frame. During construction, 65,000 cubic yards of concrete were placed, and 6,600 concrete mix truck deliveries were completed. <img src="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/8d/8d9e7cee44a96b6fe23ce2e9b05059c2.jpg?fit=crop&auto=compress%2Cformat&enlarge=true&w=1200" border="0" /><p>Exciting news in the museum world as the first site of the long-awaited <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/739248/v-a-east" target="_blank">Victoria & Albert Museum’s East extension</a> has officially topped out as of this week.</p>
<p>The new V&A East has been years in the making. After overcoming roadblocks which threatened its existence beginning with sharp public criticism at <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/149941702/v-a-east-project-update" target="_blank">its inception in 2016</a> and lasting all the way until this past fall, when it was announced that a much-heralded <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/150059297/smithsonian-london-outpost-confirmed" target="_blank">partnership with the American Smithsonian institution</a> had to be <a href="https://news.artnet.com/art-world/smithsonian-victoria-albert-gallery-canceled-1909437" target="_blank">called off</a> thanks to unforeseen circumstances caused by the pandemic.</p>

The Merdeka 118 will reach a height of 678.9 meters when completed in 2022, the tallest structure after the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. Its form and façade are informed by the hexagonal composition and patterning of the landmarked former bank, along with its materiality that includes bronze, steel, and marble. Ascending the building, the façade transforms into blackened stainless steel and shades of bronze and copper. Alternating panels of glazing in different sizes and materials create a fade from bronze to black as the tower moves upwards. </p>
<p>The Brooklyn Tower has been under construction since 2018 and cost $750 million to develop. JDS Development Group bought the Dime Savings Bank for $95 million in 2016. ...</p>

<p>The 17-story, 183,000-square-foot high-rise stands out with its free-form steel exoskeleton that wraps the structure allowing for column-free interiors. The freshly topped-out building in the Baldwin Hills neighborhood of <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/1322/los-angeles" target="_blank">Los Angeles</a>, which was originally approved in 1999, stands 230 feet tall<em></em>. It is reportedly set to be completed in June 2022.<br></p>

<p>The 85,000-square-foot structure, expected to be completed in the summer of 2022, frames the northeast edge of the school’s historic Denny Yard, an open space at the heart of the original campus plan. It expands the Foster School of Business education complex while improving connections to the surrounding area. </p>

<p>New buildings in Ecuador and Sri Lanka are nearing completion, and a new development is about to break ground on the next phase of a contemporary version of the Habitat in Qinhuangdao, China.</p>

<p>Construction has topped out on the new Jeffrey E. Gundlach Building on the <a href="https://www.wivb.com/news/local-news/buffalo/new-name-and-a-new-look-for-the-albright-knox-art-gallery/" target="_blank">soon-to-be renamed museum’s</a> Buffalo, New York campus, clearing the way for a 2022 reopening that will significantly improve the gallery’s historic footprint.</p>

<p>The project was first introduced by the developers Brookfield Properties and Park Tower Group in <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/150125369/brooklyn-gets-its-first-set-of-stacked-boxes-oma-towers" target="_blank">March 2019</a> and is expected to deliver 745 units of mixed-income housing — 30% marked as Affordable and 70% Market Rate — on Greenpoint's transformed, formerly industrial waterfront.</p>
