Five beachside houses by 'Resolution: 4 Architecture': Your Next Employer?

Following last week’s visit to Los Angeles-based Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects, we are moving our Meet Your Next Employer series to New York this week to explore the work of Resolution: 4 Architecture.

Founded in 1990 by Joseph Tanney and Robert Luntz, the firm describes itself as “dedicated to addressing 21st-century conditions through intelligent architecture and design.” From their office in New York City, the ten-person team specializes in residential projects across the United States with a particular emphasis on modular, panelized, and hybrid delivery methods.

SPF:a breathes new life into Jerrold Lomax-designed oceanfront home in Malibu

Los Angeles-based SPF:architects has completed a 5,000-square-foot renovation of a 1970s-era beachfront California modernist home designed by notable mid-century architect Jerrold E. Lomax.

SPF:a's renovations for the home, which is located in Malibu, California among a tightly clustered outcropping of residences sitting directly on the waters of the Pacific Ocean, offers an updated and perfected take on the original daylight-and-views design approach Lomax lent to the home's design.

A statement from SPF:a explains that the firm's approach for the renovation "focused on using advances in material technology to enhance the original modernist expressions laid out by Lomax that sought to maximize daylighting within."

What happens when one of YouTube's most popular car reviewers reviews a house?

This $2 million house is perched on an ocean cliff. Today I'm showing you the quirks and features of this rather unusual house. It's not a car, but it's still interesting, and quirky, and exciting -- and this house is worth checking out.

What happens when a world famous car reviewer turns his sights towards a house? While on vacation, Doug Demuro of YouTube fame couldn't help but review the 2 million dollar home he was staying in on the island of Nantucket. His insights were impressively thorough and refreshingly unlike those one might expect from an architectural critic or historian.

Demuro highlighted the "quirks and features" of the custom-built home, just as he does the production cars on his channel to a fan base of over 2.5 million subscribers, including the porthole window in the upper bedroom, the sunken outdoor eating area and its interminable outlet layout.

A residential complex on the coast of Mexico renovated by MAIN OFFICE

Mexico and Sweden-based architectural practice MAIN OFFICE has recently completed CASA LT, an expansion and restoration of a residential complex located on the coast of Mexico.

Situated in the well known surfers’ town of Sayulita, the new residential design provides a clear waterfront view of the Pacific Ocean from all spaces both inside and out.

The new complex consists of three small houses situated on the top of the hill. The original house was built in the 50's in poor condition due to lack of maintenance.

But building the $2.25 million steel-and-glass structure he had in mind presented a number of challenges on Fire Island. For starters, they had to dig 10 feet below sea level to bury the wood piles. Then they had to put a steel frame on top that could support 25 tons of glass. Sam Wood, the contractor, had been working on Fire Island for 30 years and had never seen anything like it. “It’s built like a mini-skyscraper,” he said.
