Artist Daniel Buren spruces up Gehry's Fondation Louis Vuitton with colorful intervention

Thanks to in situ artist Daniel Buren, the white glassy curved sails of the Gehry-designed Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris have received a generous splash of vibrant color — or 13 colors, to be exact...Developed in collaboration with Frank Gehry, Buren's temporary piece, titled “The Observatory of Light“, made its official debut this past Wednesday. It took 29 nights over a period of five weeks to apply the dyed filters and white 8.7 cm-wide strips throughout the building's 3,528 glass panes.

Frank Gehry can expand his Paris portfolio this fall when the new building for the Fondation Louis Vuitton (previously) will open its doors to the public on Monday, October 27. The center seeks to establish itself as a new location in Paris for contemporary French and international art and artists.

"The LVMH Group announces the opening to the public on Monday 27 October 2014, of the Fondation Louis Vuitton. The Foundation will be located in a building commissioned by Bernard Arnault, and designed by the American architect Frank Gehry. Resembling a cloud of glass, the building is set in the Jardin d’Acclimatation in Paris, in the northern part of the Bois de Boulogne.

In Paris, at the Jardin d'Acclimatation, LVMH's Bernard Arnault, unveils a "dream"; weaved by FOG, a glass facetted quasi-blob, yet to be softened into "a cloud made of glass". "I want everything to look like my drawings," Gehry went on, waving toward large reproductions of seemingly chaotic pen drawings. "The model is not quite there. We've built 30 or 40 models, and the design is still evolving. It's not going to look exactly like this, so forgive me: I want the lines to look like the sketch."

It will house art works collected by Mr. Arnault, including works by Monet, Yves Klein, Chris Burden, Takashi Murakami, Doug Aitken and Matthew Barney, and maybe a large iron sculpture by Richard Serra currently standing in the lobby of the LVMH headquarters. NY Times
