SO – IL shares facade details of forthcoming Nine Chapel residences in Brooklyn

SO – IL’s next NYC residential project is wrapping up for client Tankhouse. Their design for the 14-story, 53,820-square-foot Nine Chapel residences features a perforated metallic facade system that reflects both seasons and the sun’s position while creating a permeable veil for the loggias and front porch entrances for each home on Chapel Street in Downtown Brooklyn.

“The drama of the building’s exterior is apparent even from far away. The opportunity here was less about how we fit into an existing fabric, and more about how we define this little spot in the city,” Tankhouse’s co-founder Sam Alison-Mayne says of the design.

ODA completes cubic condos in DUMBO

ODA New York-designed condominiums, 98 Front Street, have opened in the heart of DUMBO. The 10-story luxury condominium comprises 165 studio, one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom residences ranging in size from 400 to over 2,000 square feet. Asking prices for the homes range from approximately $650,000 to $4,000,000.

"There is a simplicity in 98 Front Street’s design in the materiality and process that accentuates the building’s jewel box facade," said ODA founder Eran Chen, in a statement. "To provide residents with the best living experience, we played with the geometry and layouts to create open floor plans that allow for flexible programming for living, working, and entertaining at home, while maximizing the available light, air and outdoor spaces of each residence. Each of our nearly 50 residential buildings across New York City has its own unique geometry and personality and we're excited to see 98 Front join the ranks."

Neural Cartography: Mapping the Brain's Response to DUMBO in Brooklyn

Following their "How Does the Brain Respond to the City?" event last month, Van Alen Institute released a short video expanding on the Dumbo Mental Map Project. Collaborating with GSAPP's Cloud Lab, the video gives an insider look at the experiment, which uses EEG brain computer interfaces to gather data on participant's neural responses to the DUMBO outdoor urban environment.

The dynamic visualization of the 50 participant's mental activity data overlayed on the neighborhood is also available. The hypnotic video opens the door to entirely new forms of mapping and site analysis.
