Curated by Rem Koolhaas, the controversial exhibition was themed "Fundamentals," inviting the 65 national pavilions (a record number) to critically consider the legacy of modernism. For the central pavilion, Koolhaas and his team from OMA/AMO and Harvard curated a display of the "Elements of Architecture": floor, ramp, escalator, fa&ccedil;ade, wall, window, balcony, elevator, stair, fireplace, toilet, door, corridor, ceiling, roof.&nbsp;</p><p><img title="" alt="" src="http://cdn.archinect.net/images/514x/9x/9xsr0uzxl5ubxqud.jpg"></p><p>228,000 people visited the Biennale, breaking prior attendance records. That being said, the 2014 iteration was open for 6 months, compared to the 3 month duration of the 2012 Biennale.
