2015 NCARB Awardees to implement new curricula "to expand and reposition practice"

The NCARB Award was established back in 2001 to encourage architecture schools to develop innovative curricula that integrates architectural practice and education, as well as leaves a lasting positive impact for students and faculty.

For 2015, the NCARB Award Jury selected three U.S. schools, who collectively received over $99,000 to support the implementation of their proposed programs. This year's winners will collaborate with other design disciplines, local communities, and manufacturers "to expand and reposition practice", stated 2015 NCARB Award Jury Chair Marvin Malecha, who is the dean of the North Carolina State University College of Design.

Philadelphia University offering free Sustainable Design online course once again

After a successful first run last June, Philadelphia University is inviting students, industry professionals, and all who are interested to enroll in the free massive open online course (MOOC), Principles of Sustainable Design. The graduate-level course, which starts today until April 24, 2015, focuses on topics like demand for resources, energy systems, self-interest and altruism. The course also allow students to learn about new methods of sustainable practices that work towards "authentic sustainability" instead of "superficial greening."

Taught by Robert Fleming, co-creator and Director of the Master of Science in Sustainable Design Program at Philadelphia University, the course will be taught via HD videos, narrated PowerPoint presentations, text-based learning modules + interactive quizzes, and faculty-moderated and peer online discussions. Students will collaborate to design and implement an impact project that addresses sustainability-related issues for the final class.

Philadelphia University is offering its first massive open online course, or MOOC, based on the university’s innovative M.S. in Sustainable Design program, starting June 1.

With this course, Sustainable Design: Principles and Methodologies, PhilaU is entering the innovative new world of higher education course delivery, taking advantage of the latest technology to reach students worldwide. The course, which is free, offers three levels of rigor to meet the individualized needs of all participants.
