LA/Parisian architect, Francois Perrin, needs your support

We have been devastated by the news that our friend Francois Perrin, an LA-based architect, artist, surfer, new father and lover of all that is creative, was recently diagnosed with a very aggressive form of brain cancer. His condition has deteriorated and now considered terminal. As he transitions to hospice care, a GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist with costs for his family.

The lightness and honesty of Francois' architecture work has always impressed me. The design of Archinect Outpost, which I worked on closely with my good friend and architect Evan Geisler, was an obvious homage to Perrin's work, with the exposed ply, posts and polygal. Francois provided us with invaluable advice during the process of building our space.

Camden Highline gets backing from London Mayor

Another day, another city, another high line—this time in London. While in America, we use crowdfunding to help supplement health care costs or to actualize an invention, in England, Spacehive is using this form of alternative financing to help back projects that make local places better. Think kickstarter, but for place-making. Projects range from a 90m temporary water slide in Bristol to a Library of Things in Southeast London where one can rent a violin or camping gear alongside their books. Among such proposals, is a 0.8km garden walk on a disused elevated railway line. Its project title—Camden Highline.

The project plans to transform the obsolete tracks into a new type of green infrastructure for walking and cycling. They are currently seeking £37,412 in order to cary out a feasibility study, including site appraisals and surveys. Culture Lounge @ the St. George SI Ferry Terminal

After a two-year postponement, Staten Island Arts from New York is ready to open the Culture Lounge, a 2,500 sq.ft creative space in the high-trafficked Staten Island Ferry Terminal that aims to encourage tourists and residents to engage in local arts and culture, and connect with various international artists. So far, Staten Island Arts already passed the halfway point of their $11,000 Kickstarter goal to gather funds for critical operational items.

Death in Venice

Depressing thoughts aside, the "Death in Venice" exhibition draws from the "Fundamentals" theme of the upcoming Venice Biennale this summer and highlights the history and role of architecture in death and dying. The exhibition's Kickstarter campaign was successfully funded just last week.
