A look back at Charles & Ray Eames' lesser-known designs in honor of their symmetry in life and death

Yesterday's date, August 21st, occupies a unique place in architectural and design history as the day when Charles and Ray Eames both passed away, separated by a decade (1978 and 1988), respectively.

The shared life and work of the iconic power couple has since become the subject of numerous books, catalogs, museum retrospectives, and an excellent 2011 documentary (to name only a few), and enjoys an outsized place in the rich lineage of other husband-and-wife architectural partnerships continued today by the work of SO – IL, TWBTA, Höweler + Yoon, DS+R, and many others.

Citing the street as their favorite workplace and the whole world as their canvas, Valencia-based couple Anna Devis and Daniel Rueda inventively interact with architecture. When paired with their love of travel, this playful interest culminates in a quirky and creative collection of photos that'll make you look twice.

For those of you who "curate" your Instagram feeds with your photogenic other, there's some artfully posed competition in town: illustrator Anna Devis and trained architect Daniel Rueda not only know their architecture, but they're determined to pose winningly in front of it, as this article in My Modern Met illustrates.

The latest ShowCase: was a private residence in Weinheim by Wannenmacher-Möller Architekten. megan_eleven commented "I like the interior. The outside looking, I think, is not like a home, not warm enough~ I still prefer a house giving people warm and love.......This one, it looks a little cold~Just my opinion...."

Plus, the eleventh edition of Screen/Print: featured an article by Juhani Pallasmaa published in 2013 in OASE #91: "Building Atmosphere". The essay examines the "haptic and ‘dense’ spaces" found in Frank Lloyd Wright’s buildings and the "the importance of atmospheres in architecture".

Justine Testado reported the news that Shigeru Ban was announced as the 2014 Laureate of the Pritzker Architecture Prize.

For his part Peyton Westlake felt it was a "Savvy choice by the Pritzker; award an architect who does projects for all social types (disaster and ny condos alike) in beautifully constructed and detailed ways...Still, it feels about five years late".
