Since 2000, the Emporis Skyscraper Award recognizes outstanding skyscraper design worldwide...This year's competition reeled in more than 300 skyscrapers — all of which are over 100 meters tall and had to be completed in 2015.</p></em><br /><br /><p>Another skyscraper in China won first prize in the Emporis Skyscraper Award, following Zaha Hadid’s Wangjing SOHO project in the 2014 edition. The completion of Shanghai Tower is especially notable for pushing Chicago’s 442-meter Willis Tower (originally Sears Tower), once the world’s tallest building, out of the Top 10 list for the first time since it completed in 1974. Since construction began in 2008, the 632-meter structure recently began its final phase.</p><p>Designed by a large collaborative team at Gensler, the approximately US$4.2 billion Shanghai Tower will complete a majestic -- if not overwhelming -- trio of supertall buildings in the Lujiazui neighborhood of Shanghai's developing commercial district Pudong. The adjacent Jin Mao Tower and the Shanghai World Financial Center represent "China's past" and "China's present", respectively, whereas the Shanghai Tower will symbolize "China's future."</p><p><img title="" alt="" src="http://cdn.archinect.net/images/514x/db/dbp0bgwxxqgkhks2.jpg"><img title="" alt="" src="http://cdn.archinect.net/images/514x/7z/7z401ztnv8s9qmvu.jpg"></p><p>The tower's final phase is focused on constructing the buildings interior, which includes the first several floors and the top floors.
