Bond University's Abedian School of Architecture announces LLDS co-founder Paul Loh as next dean

One of Australia’s leading architecture faculties is getting a new department head after the Abedian School of Architecture at Bond University announced the selection of architect and University of Melbourne professor Paul Loh as its next dean.

A co-founder (along with David Leggett) of the Melbourne-based studio Power to Make/LLDS, Loh has practiced in Australia, the United Kingdom, and Malaysia. His past academic experience includes stints at Lund University, Tsinghua University, the University of East London, and the ETH Zurich. At the University of Melbourne, he is the Senior Lecturer in Digital Architecture Design and co-director of the Advanced Digital Design and Fabrication research hub. Loh has been affiliated with that school since early 2012.

For the Bond University Abedian School of Architecture's 2019 lecture series, upcoming speakers include: Kim Bridgland of Edition Office, Belen Perez de Juan and Fernando Jerez of SMAR from Madrid/Perth, Chris Gilbert of Melbourne-based Archier, and Julie Eizenberg of Koning Eizenberg. In September, the school will host the Sunshine Coast Architecture symposium.

For the latest edition of The Deans List, Archinect spoke with Chris Knapp, Discipline Leader of Bond University's Abedian School of Architecture in Queensland, Australia.

Therein he argues "Investigating things materially is something very, very important for us, and engendered in the philosophy of the school. It’s trying to look more broadly and ask where the profession will be in ten, twenty years from now. Digital design tools, digital fabrication and computer aided assembly or robotic assembly are all going to be much more pervasive, especially on construction sites".

The interview/school reminded Robert Payton of "THE EARLY DAYS OF SCI-ARC" while Ryan Wainwright noted he "had the benefit of being a student of Chris Knapp's while he was teaching at the University of Michigan. He truly is an inspirational professor".

Plus, Amelia and Paul spoke with Patrick Creadon Director of If You Build It, which documents a year in the classroom of Project H.
