Since Studio MK27 completed the polished abode last year, it has gained recognition in notable design competitions like the 2016 AZ Awards and the latest INSIDE: World Festival of Interiors shortlist.
Led by Studio MK27's Marcio Kogan, Diana Radomysler and Luciana Antunes, the firm's main objective was to create spatial continuity and a “cozy and solemn atmosphere” throughout the three-floor penthouse, they state. “Infinite circulations accentuate the fluidity between the spaces and configure functional pathways.” But careful architectural details and furnishings make all the difference, giving every space its own character.

São Paulo, a Brazilian megacity of 20 million people, is suffering its worst drought in at least 80 years, with key reservoirs that supply the city dried up after an unusually dry year.

One of the most important reservoirs in Brazil is the Cantareira watershed, which supplies around 45% of the city of São Paulo's water. Back in August, authorities warned that the city, which is the largest on the continent, could run out of water in 100 days if the waters dropped to 12%. Chief curator Charles Esche commissioned nearly 70 percent of the exhibition’s artworks, collaborating with a five-person curatorial team that included an architect for the first time in the biennial’s 63-year history (fun fact: it’s the world’s second-oldest contemporary art biennial).

Then a sequence of columns lined concrete, even without horizontal beams or cradles that unite. Behind them, a shapeless mass of structures (mainly buildings) and fairly diverse in terms of their heights, but uniform in appearance plastic, forming a kind of wall to the second stage.
