"Building Images" exhibition revives the power of imagery in architecture

Without a doubt, photography has left a lasting impact in how people experience architectural spaces, and that influence continues to grow more widespread in these digital times. Sto Werkstatt and Arcaid Images collaborated to produce the upcoming "Building Images" exhibition as a critical exploration of photography and its ability to convey architectural elements and concepts.

The exhibition organizers also hope "Building Images" will renew the conversation on the power of photography as a visual communication tool within the architectural and design industry as well as spark broader debate on the use of imagery in the digital era.

Opening on January 16 at Sto Werkstatt in Clerkenwell, London, the public exhibition rounds up well-composed works of 14 talented architectural photographers who competed in the most recent Arcaid Images Architectural Photography Awards. Hufton + Crow named as Arcaid Images Architectural Photographer of the Year 2014

Every year, Arcaid Images honors the very best architectural photographers and their expertise and creativity in the unique medium of architectural photography. Nick Hufton and Al Crow of Hufton + Crow were announced as the 2014 overall winners of the Arcaid Images Architectural Photographer of the Year award at the end of World Architecture Festival in Singapore on October 3.

Hufton + Crow won the prestigious award for their interior photograph of Zaha Hadid Architects' well-known Heydar Aliyev Centre in Baku, Azerbaijan. (pictured above). Interestingly enough, Hufton + Crow also received a runner-up spot for their exterior photograph of the same building.

The three additional runners-up announced were:

↓ Victor Romeo for the Cayan Tower by SOM

↓ Inigo Bujedo Aguirre for the Encants Flea Market by B720 Arquitectura

↓ Joao Morgado for Outdoor Swimming Pool by Alvaro Siza Vieira

Winning 2013 Arcaid Images Architectural Photography Awards photos exhibited in London this month

Snap, snap! Here are the winning photos of the 2013 Arcaid Images Architectural Photography Awards. First displayed at the most recent World Architecture Festival, the photos will be on exhibition in London this month. Architectural photographers had to show the best of their shooting skills under four categories: Exterior, Interior, Sense of Place, and Buildings in Use. This year's judges featured Zaha Hadid, Catherine Slessor, Eva Jiricna, Ivan Harbour and Graham Stirk.
