Sam Jacob to redevelop former pub in Shoreditch

Sam Jacob Studio’s mixed-use development in the Hoxton Street conservation area retains the façade of the Victorian pub originally on the site while creating ground-floor community facilities with an apartment above. The four-storey scheme will restore the last remaining piece of what was once a terraced street razed to the ground by bombing during the Second World War. The new block is expressed as a curved wall punctured by diamond-shaped window openings.

Although fashion magnate Tom Ford does not make much of the fact that he studied architecture at Parsons The New School for Design, that early influence can still be felt in his body of work, as it can with Daniel DuGoff, an architectural alum of Washington University in St. Louis turned fashionista who has recently been attracting press attention for his technically exquisite yet stylish clothing line DDUGOFF. However, the industry has also been venturing into other traditionally architectural realms. FAT Announces The End of Its Practice

Following on from the completion of a number of architecturally significant projects, directors Sean Griffiths, Charles Holland and Sam Jacob believe that, with the conclusion of these final projects, FAT will have achieved all it set out to do when the practice first emerged in the 1990's. FAT was always conceived as a project in itself, a vehicle for critically opening up the culture of architecture rather than purely a conventional architectural practice.
