In the outer-borough neighborhoods that lack the robust EV infrastructure of Manhattan’s Central Business District, these chargers are proving quite popular.</p></em><br /><br /><p>In an interview with <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/1099245/urban-omnibus" target="_blank">Urban Omnibus</a> managing editor Kevin Ritter, <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/12384/new-york-city" target="_blank">New York City</a> Department of Transportation officials Will Carry and Luis Gonzalez outlined the city's vision for creating a comprehensive electric vehicle <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/1739788/charging-stations" target="_blank">charging infrastructure</a>. The department has recently launched a curbside charging pilot program across the city's boroughs, which has proven popular with users.</p>
<p>"In Europe, they’ve reached a point in the market development where cities are making net revenue from these chargers," Carry said. "We’re not there in New York, but at some point there is the potential for this to contribute to the city’s general fund."</p>

The board voted unanimously in favor of the final version of the plan’s Environmental Impact Report on Thursday.</p>
<p>As was pointed out by <a href="https://laist.com/brief/news/transportation/dodgers-gondola-project-metro-board-approves-plans" target="_blank">LAist</a>, the proposal still needs approvals from <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/600134/la-city-council" target="_blank">Los Angeles City Council</a>, <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/1100197/caltrans" target="_blank">Caltrans</a>, and California State Parks to begin construction. The Metro’s decision came with a steep set of 31 conditions, which include a fund for affordable housing plus marketing opportunities and other concessions directed to small business owners in Elysian Park and Chinatown.</p>

The non-profit group, which describes its role as inspiring “effective decisions that advance fairness and enhance the well-being of people and places,” set out their position in a <a href="https://www.urban.org/sites/default/files/2022-09/Regulating%20Autonomous%20Vehicles%20Report.pdf" target="_blank">78-page report</a> published this week.</p>
<p>“The mobility system in the United States is unsafe, inequitable, and environmentally destructive,” the report says. “Autonomous vehicles (AVs) — self-driving cars that can travel along publicly accessible streets some or all of the time without human involvement — could help mitigate these problems, if they are implemented in a thoughtful, well-regulated manner.”</p>

Based on the survey, Kantar predicts greener means of transport will represent nearly half (50%) of all trips taken in cities in 2030, with cycling to increase globally by 18%, walking to increase by 15% and public transit use to increase by 6%.</p></em><br /><br /><p>According to <em>Smart Cities Dive,</em> the UN-Habitat World Urban Forum surveyed 20,000 city dwellers across 31 cities to better understand how their preferred methods of travel might change over the next decade. According to the state's Governor, Greg Abbot, it's a possibility. </p>
<p>In a recent speech, Abbot, who is a Republican, expressed doubt that the state's current transportation regime can last much longer as the desire for urban living, housing affordability, and other factors counterbalance the practicality of the seemingly limitless highway networks currently in operation there. </p>
<p>But don't mistake the prediction as an intention to support the development of mass transit infrastructure. Instead of <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/1451300/bus-rapid-transit" target="_blank">busways</a> and <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/490396/light-rail" target="_blank">rail lines</a>, which the governor thinks should be funded locally, Abbot envisions flying cars as a potential transportation solution for the state's future growth. </p>

<p>"Among HDR’s key responsibilities will be implementing the state’s recently developed CAV business plan, meant to move Florida’s CAV efforts from planning phases and pilot projects to full-scale statewide deployment," writes the organization in a <a href="https://www.hdrinc.com/news-and-events/news/2019/hdr-selected-guide-floridas-statewide-connected-and-automated-vehicle" target="_blank">press release</a>.</p>
<p>The hope is that CAV technologies will improve travel for state residents, reduce highway accidents, improve travel time, and increase overall mobility.</p>

The plan is to "construct one pedestrian tunnel, two 0.8-mile vehicle tunnels and three underground stations, as well as modify and test seven-seater Tesla cars to carry up to 16 people," reports TechCrunch. </p>
<p>The Las Vegas Monorail has expressed concerns regarding the new project. According to Monorail CEO Curtis Myles, "the proposed underground people mover system intersects our existing system route, and it appears the presented tunnel alignment interferes with our existing columns for the Las Vegas Monorail system and creates significant concern regarding both vertical and lateral loads."</p>
<p>After some back and forth, TBC must now have "regular coordination" with the Monorail and the city's Public Works department. In the end, TBC will become a direct competitor to the Monorail. </p>

The so-called East River Skyway would be comprised of high-speed aerial cable cars, moving New Yorkers to Manhattan in less than four minutes. Those who need buses would be no worse off than they are now. But a problem would come if a city like Amsterdam had a bike modal share of 90 percent, as could achieved if end-of-trip strategies were built into all buildings to eliminate the problem of bike theft, and if shelter removed the inequity of cycling being the one mode remaining where people get wet.</p></em><br /><br /><!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/loose.dtd">

In addressing each city's current situation, The Green Lane Project will provide each city with financial, strategic, and technical assistance in constructing the bike lanes, which are valued at more than $250,000. The on-street lanes are separated from traffic by curbs, planters, parked cars, or posts to help organize...</p>
