Russia cancels plans for ambitious NCCA museum in Moscow due to lack of funding

Russian officials have abandoned a flagship project to build of a new State Center for Contemporary Arts in Moscow. [...] the head of the National Centre for Contemporary Arts (ROSIZO-NCCA), Sergey Perov, revealed to the Art Newspaper Russia earlier this month that the project had been officially scrapped due to a lack of funding. He said the government had been unable to find the 16 billion rubles ($240 million) needed to back the project.

Irish firm Heneghan Peng Architects had originally emerged as the final winner of the international competition for Moscow’s new National Center for Contemporary Arts (NCCA) back in 2013.

WAI Architecture Think Tank sent us their design for Moscow's New National Center for Contemporary Arts (NCCA) that was shortlisted in the top 10 designs during the competition. Heneghan Peng's design was chosen as the winner, as announced earlier today.

The Strelka Institute for media, architecture and design announced on Dec. 12 the three finalists for the international competition to design the National Center for Contemporary Arts (NCCA) at the Khodynskoe Pole in Moscow.

Earlier today, we published the ten shortlisted firms which qualified to move on to stage 2 of the international architectural competition for the new National Center for Contemporary Arts (New NCCA) in Moscow, Russia. The entry by Los Angeles-based Tom Wiscombe Design didn't quite make the list, but we are happy to present it here to a wider audience.

The Jury announced the list of participants of the second stage. During the press conference on October 1, 2013 competition Jury announced the names of 10 participants of the second phase of the International competition for the architectural concept of museum and exhibition complex of the New National centre for contemporary arts.

The international competition to design the New National Centre for Contemporary Arts in Moscow was held in two stages and its now entering its final phase with ten offices selected to make a final concept proposal for the design of the biggest institution of contemporary art in Russia. Five offices were selected through a “preliminary concept” proposal while five firms were shortlisted through their “dossiers”. The ten architectural firms are:
