<img src="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/b3/b309812e0fc7619a4d24caf5c83fb792.jpg?fit=crop&auto=compress%2Cformat&enlarge=true&w=1200" border="0" /><p>The buzz that followed the recent debut of <a href="https://archinect.com/populous" target="_blank">Populous</a>' $2.3 billion <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/2274818/msg-sphere-las-vegas" target="_blank">Sphere</a> in Las Vegas has provided one academic at the <a href="https://archinect.com/UNLVSoA" target="_blank">University of Nevada, Las Vegas</a> with a valuable teaching opportunity to expose students to cutting-edge concepts integral to the future of high-tech <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/13155/experience-design" target="_blank">spatial experience</a>, <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/832/urban-development" target="_blank">urban development</a>, and <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/1394350/entertainment-design" target="_blank">entertainment design.</a></p>
<p>“I’m excited to see some of my own students in the master of architecture program, have played a role in things like commissioning of the Sphere as part of their internships, looking at the building system performance,” Associate Professor of Architecture Glenn NP Nowak told the local affiliate <a href="https://www.8newsnow.com/news/local-news/a-closer-look-at-las-vegas-msg-spheres-impact-on-architectu" target="_blank">KLAS-TV</a> recently. “We have looked at the integration of digital technology, obviously it’s paramount when looking at that, it’s impossible to ignore and it shows that evolution we’ve seen throughout the Strip.”<br></p>

<img src="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/ac/ac03714ddcc0af057ccf8627a6d75cf0.jpg?fit=crop&auto=compress%2Cformat&enlarge=true&w=1200" border="0" /><em><p>New wearable technology could help prevent struck-by and caught-between injuries and incidents, found a study from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas released last month by the Center for Construction Research and Training (CPWR). The study outfitted workers with waist belts with vibrating motors to detect possible nearby hazards.</p></em><br /><br /><p><a href="https://www.cpwr.com/sites/default/files/publications/SS2019-embedded-safety-work-zones.pdf" target="_blank">The study</a> explored a system that notified workers through vibrations <em>where</em> nearby machinery and vehicles were in operations. The experiment even went so far as to cover the eyes of the participants, resulting in 95% accuracy in completing tasks. </p><p>The research moves forward attempts to limit the <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/150148447/why-are-so-many-construction-workers-dying-in-texas" target="_blank">rising number of construction related deaths</a> occurring across the industry.</p>

Uscher, dean of UNLV’s College of Fine Arts, is pleased to welcome architectural designer, educator, researcher, and writer Steffen Lehmann as director of the School of Architecture and professor of architecture. Previously, he served as a professor for sustainable architecture as well as director of the Cluster for Sustainable Cities at the University of Portsmouth.</p></em><br /><br /><p>German-born Steffen Lehmann studied at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London and the Technical University of Berlin, has taught at universities in Australia, the UK, and other countries, was influential as founder of Steffen Lehmann Architekten Berlin in the urban redevelopment of central Berlin in the 1990s, and held the UNESCO Chair in Sustainable Urban Development for Asia and the Pacific from 2008 to 2010.</p>
