With summer just around the corner, it's the perfect time to start planning your visits to the most critical architecture and design events around the globe. To help you out, we've put together a comprehensive list of the biennales, expos, exhibitions and must-see events to keep you up-to-date on the latest developments in architecture and design.

Adrian Lahoud selected to curate inaugural Sharjah Architecture Triennial

Sharjah is looking to transform the discussion around urban life with its new initiative, the Sharjah Architecture Triennial, which has announced the curator for its inaugural exhibition. Adrian Lahoud, dean of the School of Architecture at the Royal College of Art in London and a researcher on Arab cities, will curate the new initiative’s flagship event, to be held in November 2019.

Research work of RCA Architecture Dean Adrian Lahoud focuses primarily on urban spatial forms and large scale environmental change, particularly in the Arab world and Africa, making him a qualified candidate to establish this new triennial program for Sharjah, Dubai's neighbor and third largest city in the United Arab Emirates.

"I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to shape the inaugural edition of the Sharjah Architecture Triennial," Lahoud said, "and to find ways of supporting an emerging generation of architects, artists and scholars in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia."

SelgasCano's floating pavilion invades the canals of Bruges for the city's Triennial

Over the weekend, the famous tourist town of Bruges—known for its enchanting canals, Belgian chocolate, and starring role in the movie In Bruges—kicked off the second edition of its Contemporary Art and Architecture Triennial. Themed Liquid City | Vloeibare stad, the event has returned with surprising installations by an international roster of celebrated artists and architects, spread across the historic cityscape.

Chief curators for the 2019 Oslo Architecture Triennale are announced

After a yearlong search and an open Call for Curator, the 2019 Oslo Architecture Triennale has finally selected a winning proposal for the upcoming event. The jury has picked the curatorial team comprised of Interrobang founder, Maria Smith; Canadian designer educator and Interrobang Associate, Matthew Dalziel; British critic and think tank director, Phineas Harper; and Norwegian urban researcher and artist, Cecilie Sachs Olsen.

Chosen from 71 submissions and entitled "Common Futures," the theme questions the unbridled growth and rapid pace of industrialization underwent by societies throughout the 20th century. The proposal posits instead the alternative concept of Degrowth, an economic ideology that questions infinite economic growth as the one-way future for the whole of humanity.
