We take a look at:</p><p>The "sphincter from which digital art issues" (according to one Archinect commenter), aka <a href="http://archinect.com/news/article/146585321/architecture-of-life-exhibition-marks-opening-of-ds-r-designed-new-berkeley-art-museum-next-week" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">DS+R's new Berkeley Art Museum</a>; the controversy surrounding <a href="http://archinect.com/news/article/146368753/bjarke-ingels-shouldn-t-be-proud-to-have-the-washington-redskins-as-a-client-according-to-critic-philip-kennicott" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">BIG's latest client</a> (referred to here as the Washington "Pigskins"); recent <a href="http://archinect.com/news/article/146580484/building-our-best-nature-archinect-sessions-one-to-one-8-with-scott-merrill-winner-of-this-year-s-driehaus-prize" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">discussions of diversity</a> issues that have arisen on the site; the <a href="http://archinect.com/news/article/146672126/25-year-old-architect-wins-wwi-centennial-memorial-competition-in-d-c#CommentsAnchor" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">25-year old</a> who won a big World War I memorial design contest; <a href="http://archinect.com/news/article/146731731/ds-r-led-moma-redesign-scaled-back-more-details-released" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">MoMA's updated expansion</a> plans; Architecture for Humanity's <a href="http://archinect.com/news/article/146279588/architecture-for-humanity-spin-off-chapter-network-appoints-garrett-jacobs-exec-director" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">potential second life</a>; and more.</p><p>Listen to episode 50 of <a href="http://archinect.com/sessions" rel="nofollow" target="_blank"><strong>Archinect Sessions</strong></a>, "How the Sausage Is Made":</p><ul><li><strong>iTunes</strong>: <a href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/archinect-sessions/id928222819" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Click here to listen</a>, and click the "Subscribe" button below the logo to automatically download new episodes.</li><li><strong>Apple Podcast App (iOS)</strong>: <a href="pcast://archinect.libsyn.com/rss" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">click here to subscribe</a></li><li><strong>SoundCloud</strong>: <a href="http://soundcloud.com/archinect" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">click here to follow Archinect</a></li><li><strong>RSS</strong>: subscribe with any of your favorite...</li></ul>

The winner will receive the Pritzker's bronze medal, $100,000, and an avalanche of "what does this mean for architecture" media attention.</p>
<p>Check back here for the winner announcement first thing Wednesday, but until then, revel with us in the contentious practice of Pritzker-Predictions! Our top 6 picks follow:</p>
<p><strong>Steven Holl: the perennial prediction</strong></p>

<p>↑ <em>Sifang Art Museum in Nanjing, China</em></p>
<p>Holl seems like an obvious choice, and his name has certainly echoed before in prediction lists. His work is known for its impressive light choreography and has a far-reaching global roster of projects, most recently including the Reid Building expansion at the Glasgow School of Art and the Nanjing Sifang Art Museum in China.</p>
<p><strong>DS+R: the buzziest</strong></p>

Architects and critics bristle at DS+R's Folk Museum sacrifice Amelia Taylor-Hochberg2014-01-09T18:20:00-05:00>2024-01-23T19:16:08-05:00

Yesterday, DS+R announced in their proposal for MoMA's redesign that the <a href="http://archinect.com/news/article/90772488/american-folk-art-museum-will-be-razed-in-diller-scofidio-renfro-s-moma-expansion" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">American Folk Art Museum would have to be demolished</a>. Backlash from the <a href="http://folkmoma.tumblr.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">#folkMoMA</a> community quickly arose: architects and critics called the choice callous and unsustainable, outraged not only by the Folk Art Museum's destruction but also the design that would take its place, and its impact on New York's (and DS+R's) reputation.</p>
<p>
We've gathered a slew of responses to the proposal, both indignant and accepting, from Archinect contributors and beyond, and will be following developments closely. Here are a few of those thoughts:</p>
<p>
<em><strong>From the Archinect news post, </strong></em><em><strong><a href="http://archinect.com/news/article/90772488/american-folk-art-museum-will-be-razed-in-diller-scofidio-renfro-s-moma-expansion" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">American Folk Art Museum will be razed in Diller Scofidio + Renfro's MoMA expansion</a>:</strong></em></p>

<a href="http://archinect.com/people/cover/1906872/donna-sink" rel="nofollow" target="_blank"><strong>Donna Sink</strong></a>: "All of DSR's previous work is tarnished by this."</p>
<p>
<strong>Darkman</strong>: "This solidifies Rem Koolhaas as the best architect-thinker of our time, for his original MoMA proposal, "MoMA, Inc." "</p>
<p>
<strong>thebeigecity</strong>: "As for the Folk Art Museum - it was cramped and cloying, ov...</p>
