Weeksville Heritage Center is a new sustainable cultural center designed by Caples Jefferson Architects PC. It is a two-story, 23,000 sq ft new building and 41,000 sq ft interpretive landscape, located at the intersection of Buffalo Avenue and Bergen Street in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY. In the 1960’s, four remaining buildings from this Brooklyn settlement were rediscovered. through 40 years of impassioned community support, the site eventually grew to serve as a focal african-american heritage site.</p>

The main lobby includes introductory exhibits and leads to a gallery, a lecture and performance space for 200, classrooms...</p>

In our previous posts, we have published the winners of the 2013 AIA New York Chapter Design Awards in the categories Architecture and Interiors. Here are now the eight award winners in the Projects category selected by the jurors Michelle Addington, Marlon Blackwell, FAIA, and Eric Höweler, AIA, LEEP AP.</p>
<p>
Submitted projects had to be completed by architects/designers practicing in New York, or be New York projects designed by architects/designers based elsewhere.</p>
<p>
All winning work will be exhibited in the Design Awards exhibition at the Center for Architecture beginning April 18, with an opening reception from 6-8pm. The exhibition will remain on view through May 31. Exhibition design by Kokoro & Moi.</p>
