Bernard Tschumi designs 'HyperTent' ticket booth for Parc de la Villette

One of architect Bernard Tschumi’s most significant Parisian developments is getting an iconic new addition called the HyperTent that will enhance its status as one of the best concentrations of significant architecture in the Western hemisphere.

Set upon the podium of one of the park’s 35 Folies, the parabolic new structure will serve as the ticketing booth for a program of circus arts set to take shape in the 19th arrondissement’s Parc de la Villette.

The park is home to the Parisian Conservatorie as well as several other important cultural venues like the Cabaret Sauvage and Jean Nouvel-designed Philharmonie de Paris and annually attracts about 10 million visitors to its 55 hectares (136 acres) located to the north on the right bank of the River Seine. Bernard Tschumi completes major museum in China

Award-winning Swiss-French architect Bernard Tschumi has completed the Tianjin Binhai Exploratorium, a massive new museum that will be joining MVRDV's futuristic library as one of five main attractions in the northern Chinese city of Tianjin's growing recreational district.

Set to open in Fall 2019, the Exploratorium will celebrate the historical and contemporary industrial achievements of the region through the use of cutting-edge, interactive technology such as VR. Considered the birthplace of the Chinese industrial revolution, exhibitions will explore the city's role as a center for manufacturing, space research, and widespread urbanization. In addition, the project will hold facilities for events, as well as galleries, offices, restaurants and retail.

Bernard Tschumi retrospective opens on April 30 at Centre Pompidou, Paris

Book a trip to the Centre Pompidou in Paris this summer. The Centre is hosting the first major European retrospective of iconic French-Swiss architect and theorist Bernard Tschumi from April 30 to July 28, 2014. Exploring Tschumi's work from 1975 to the present, the exhibition will feature a thematic arrangement of archival documents, films, and around 350 of his never-before-seen sketches, drawings, collages, and models -- all displayed in an installation he designed himself.

"The exhibition at the Centre Pompidou — based on Bernard Tschumi’s work as an architect, educator, and writer — explores the making of architecture as a series of arguments, ideas, influences, and responses to the contemporary definition of architecture today."

Over at Bustler.net, Bernard Tschumi Architects unveiled the schematic design for the firm's first work in Italy: ANIMA, a new cultural center in the city of Grottammare. The project has been commissioned by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Ascoli Piceno and the Municipality of Grottammare and is expected to be completed by 2016.

In the description of the project, it states: “Could one design a facade without resorting to formal composition? Could one design a facade that would be neither abstract nor figurative, but formless, so to speak? Our motivation in raising these questions was both economic and cultural: At a time of economic crisis, to indulge in formal geometries made out of complex volumetric curves did not seem a responsible option. The time of ‘Iconism’ seemed to be over".
