Images of the high-rise schemes, located in <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/4611/chicago" target="_blank">Chicago</a> and <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/35048/washington-dc" target="_blank">Washington D.C.</a>, have been published in the latest edition of the <em>Frank Lloyd Wright Quarterly</em>, a hard-copy magazine of the <a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/57479141/the-frank-lloyd-wright-foundation" target="_blank">Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation</a>.</p>

The mile-high skyscraper was unveiled by Wright in 1956 and would have stood four times taller than the world’s then-largest building. "The Empire State Building would be a mouse by comparison," Wright boasted at the time.<br></p>

Eleven inkjet drawings featuring unbuilt visions by Denari's studio NMDA will be showcased in his “Displaced Buildings in Aperiodic City” exhibition, opening May 27 at the Steven Holl-designed <a href="http://tspacerhinebeck.org/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">‘T’ Space Gallery</a> in Rhinebeck, New York. If you'll be in the area in the coming weeks, it could be worth checking out. </p><p><a href="http://archinect.com/nmda" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">NMDA</a> created the drawings over the past seven years. It would have been the tallest building in the world until the completion of the Empire State Building.

She concluded "<em>When Los Angeles appears so often but rarely as itself, Andersen’s piece honors the city’s ability to be a kind of transforming icon -- each destination in conversation with its inhabitants. It's impossible to know exactly what Los Angeles would be like today were these projects successful, but that isn't the point of "Never Built" -- it captures the collective consciousness of a city in the unrealized language of iconic architecture</em>".</p>
