SO – IL’s shifting 'Anima' design will debut at Art Omi Pavilions at Chatham in 2026

SO – IL’s Anima pavilion design for Art Omi Pavilions at Chatham, Art Omi's brand new satellite pavilions offshoot in New York’s Hudson Valley, has been released ahead of its anticipated 2026 debut.

Forming as a "shifting presence" on the undulating meadows at the site, the pavilion offers visitors five interconnected gallery spaces defined by their own distinct lighting and proportions and serviced by unidirectional (e.g. one way in and out) entrances.

Set against its surroundings with monochromatic dark gray cladding and a conical stacked wooden block roof structure, the design is equal to about 1,860 square feet and oscillates between 7 and 35 feet in height at its pinnacle.

Studio Gang's Samuel H. Scripps Theater Center breaks ground in the Hudson Valley

Work on the first-ever LEED Platinum theater in the United States has commenced in New York’s Hudson River Valley. By summer 2026, the new 14,850-square-foot permanent home for the Hudson Valley Shakespeare company from Studio Gang, the Samuel H. Scripps Theater Center, will welcome guests to open air performances on its donated 98-acre campus in Garrison. Nelson Byrd Woltz is included for the landscape program of the surrounding site, which had been previously been used as a golf course.

Jeanne Gang says: "The architecture weaves in elements of the natural environment to create a unique indoor-outdoor setting for the company’s open-air productions and to offer an unparalleled theater experience."

School is out of session for the summer, but Vassar College’s new Center for the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life and Contemplative Practices is on our minds after a recently completed project from L.E.FT Architects restored the existing Pratt House into a campus hub for student’s wellness and intellectual growth.

Their adaptive reuse of the 109-year-old building turned its three-story Gothic Revival structure into a home for the office and their mission to serve twelve religious and spiritual student groups at Vassar. In what was originally the college warden’s residence, a new kind of space has evolved. In it, the architects say, the restrictive “dichotomies” dividing religious and secular life in America are dissolved into a communal space imbued with tolerance and the desire to enact change.

HWKN to design new Keith Haring Wing expansion for Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard

The Center for Curatorial Studies (CCS) at Bard College in New York is about to begin work on a new expansion of its CCS Bard Library and Archives, thanks to a $3 million gift from the Keith Haring Foundation. The funds will help advance the HWKN Architecture-led $10 million capital project towards a late 2025 completion.

The project was announced as a 6,000-square-foot expansion and will help house the CCS Library and Archives and related Hessel Museum collection, both of which have been added to by recent donations from the art dealer Gavin Brown and former MoMA chief curator Robert Storr. HWKN says their design is “aimed at enhancing the educational and community aspects of this unique venue.”

Studio Gang to design new home for the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival in Upstate New York

Studio Gang has revealed plans for the new home of the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival in Upstate New York.

Located in the town of Garrison, the 13,850-square-foot performing arts space is set to become the first-ever LEED Platinum theater design in the United States when it is completed.

Nelson Byrd Woltz will provide landscaping for the site, a 98-acre former golf course that was donated to the company in 2020. Anchored by an open-air theater, the design frames the surrounding natural landscape to allow for actors to emerge from the topography.

A timber-framed shell with wooden columns that supports the proscenium arch is carefully oriented to frame the surrounding Wey-Gat (or “Wind Gate”) for the audience and players. Alberto Campo Baeza and Miguel Quismondo of MQ Architecture have delivered a new 13,000-square-foot expansion to the ten-acre campus of Magazzino Italian Art in Cold Spring, New York.

Sited on the grounds perpendicular to Quismondo’s existing L-shaped main museum building from 2017, the Robert Olnick Pavilion repeats the scale, cornice lines, layout, and materiality of the older structure while adding much-needed room for educational and events programming in time for the start of the fall arts season. The pavilion was inaugurated in September, joining OMA and Cooper Roberston’s new AKG Art Museum expansion in Buffalo as one of the most important American cultural and museum sector commissions of the year.
