The design for Casa Emma was inspired by the space inside Eduardo Souto de Moura's pyramid design for the Paula Rego Museum in Lisbon. Its captivating central feature is a central lightwell that works to channel natural light into various parts of the home, which is tucked away on an unassuming side street in the city of Morelia.

Founded in 2017 by Jean-Gabriel Neukomm, the firm operates on the premise that “great architecture requires a bold vision for collaboration, a commitment to honor the histories of site and community, and an embrace of intelligent, lasting design.” This ethos has led the firm to build a portfolio ranging from luxury residential and hospitality to large-scale urban projects.

For candidates interested in applying for the position, or anybody interested in learning about the firm’s output, we have rounded up four interior projects by Jean-Gabriel Neukomm that exemplify the studio’s ethos.

Established in New York City in 1997 by Morris Adjmi following his 13-year-long collaboration with Aldo Rossi, MA has since expanded from its NYC base to open a second office in New Orleans.

The firm describes itself as a “leader in the revitalization of post-industrial neighborhoods and historic districts,” exemplified by a broad portfolio spanning a renovated brick warehouse in Tribeca to a contemporary glass tower built on an existing art deco building along the High Line.

The firm now seeks to expand by advertising for several roles in NYC and New Orleans on the Archinect Job board. For candidates interested in applying for a role, or anybody interested in learning more about life as an architect, we spoke with the team at MA for a behind-the-scenes look at their studio.

The design features a 20-person hostel and community bookstore space inserted into a 232-square-meter (2,500-square-foot) stone house set amongst the richly forested landscape of Zhejiang Province.

The Piet Zwart Institute houses the international Master programs of the Willem de Kooning Academy, Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences. Named after the pioneering Dutch designer, Piet Zwart, who worked experimentally across media and contexts, the Institute offers a rich combination of in-depth specialization and interdisciplinary exchange within an intimate learning environment.

As a small-scale program, MIARD operates from a point of view that education is adaptable to a variety of external forces and should resist institutional idleness. Practice is considered an expanding field as a means to train practitioners for a career in a changing world. Interior Architects are increasingly faced with a complex world of new realties, technologies, socio-political, environmental and economic challenges; thus, the practice of the designer needs to react, expand and shape future roles.
