HOK reveals further details for flying car racing vertiport

HOK has revealed further details of their modular vertiport design for future flying car race events. As we reported in October, the project was developed for the UK-registered company Airspeeder which describes its mission as “to build the ultimate performance flying car” to “define a new mobility revolution.”

Now, a new two-minute video showcases further details of the team’s vision for the “environment that teams, pilots, and the esports gamer stand the fans can expect."

“Airspeeder partnered with global architecture firm HOK to design the world’s first modular race vertiport, setting the stage for the future of eVTOL racing,” the new video states. “This innovative concept aims to revolutionize both the industry, sport and spectator experience.”

The burgeoning future of personal airborne transportation is a topic on many minds of late as advancements in aviation technology make the prospect of flying cars and similar vehicles more and more feasible.

Now, HOK is entering its name into a mix with a design for what will be the world’s first flying car racing series. The firm's London-based Sport + Entertainment group will design Airspeeder's first eVTOL electric vehicle racing vertiport structure called Skydeck in an unnamed desert location. A spokesperson with Airspeeder said it would "initiate a new mobility revolution."

A press release described the design, which borrows from years of experience designing for the F1 racing series, as being able to accommodate 10 teams with up to 20 flying race cars.

Foster + Partners unveils vertiport terminal concept for Dubai

A new electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) terminal concept has been unveiled by Foster + Partners.

The firm says its plan would augment the Dubai International Airport (DBX) and was developed in unison with Skyports Infrastructure, which Foster + Partners called a leader in advanced air mobility (AAM). It will help transport air travelers to other nodes in the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA)’s planned vertiport and metro infrastructure network, itself a zero emissions high-speed system that’s currently being promoted by the government and the emirate's monarch Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
