Bechtel commits $7 million to American Foundation for Suicide Prevention partnership to stop construction worker suicides

Earlier this week, engineering and construction giant Bechtel and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) announced a multiyear partnership dedicated to preventing construction worker suicides.

The partnership aims to reach 500,000 U.S. construction workers over five years through industry-specific programs and resources. Bechtel has reportedly committed $7 million to the AFSP, which is the largest pledge ever received by the Foundation and the largest single donation ever made by Bechtel. The endeavor aims to combine Bechtel’s industry knowledge and AFSP’s national network, education, and prevention strategies.

AECOM, Bechtel officially join reconstruction effort in Ukraine

AECOM and Bechtel have both announced their involvement in the international effort to rebuild Ukraine following 15 months of a devastating war which had, by mid-spring, enacted more than $147.5 billion worth of damage to infrastructure across the country, according to estimates from the Kyiv School of Economics.

The moves were announced late last month in conjunction with the country’s Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development (AECOM) and the State Agency for Restoration and Development of Infrastructure of Ukraine (AECOM and Bechtel), and will include the delivery of a “wide range” of reconstruction projects along with supportive technical expertise to the government and other private contractors.

Important cost estimation and other kinds of engineering consultations will also be provided as part of the State Agency for Restoration and Development of Infrastructure memorandum as the country transitions to an international model for procurements.

Saudi Arabia is moving forward with plans for a ski resort in NEOM

The NEOM megadevelopment in Saudi Arabia is moving forward with an attention-grabbing feature after the American engineering firm Bechtel announced its retention as project managers for a new manmade ski resort project called Trojena.

According to NEOM’s website, the resort will be spread across six development districts containing a manmade lake, "folded" village, wildlife reserves, observatory, hotel, and the country’s first-ever high-altitude ski run. It will have room for 3,600 guest accommodations and 2,200 custom-built ultra-luxury "slope residences" for approximately 7,000 people set against more than 500 square miles of undeveloped mountain land.

The resort will be located about 30 miles from Saudi Arabia’s Gulf of Aqaba coast and range in elevation from 4,921 to 8,530 feet.
