Frank Gehry to design new Krakow Academy of Music complex

The Krakow Academy of Music recently announced Gehry Partners as the winner of a competition to design the school's new complex of educational facilities and main concert hall, which will be built on a former military site in the southern part of Krakow's Grzegórzki district.

When the Krakow Academy of Music, a Polish higher-ed institution, launched the two-stage competition last year, they sought a “lively” design that presented the most fitting architectural, functional, and acoustic solutions.

The initial renderings depict a campus of silver cubic buildings with slightly skewed edges, and it looks pretty typical of the Gehry brand to anyone already familiar with his work. CSA’s “Ribbon of Memory” memorial in Krakow, Poland being built to honor Polish WWII resistance

"Ribbon of Memory" by Vienna-based team CSA is currently being built into a memorial dedicated to Polish World War II resistance fighters in Krakow, Poland. CSA's proposal was the winning entry for the international competition held in June 2013 by the World Association of Polish AK veterans. The memorial celebrated its groundbreaking on Sept. 27, and completion is expected in 2014.

Małopolska Garden of Arts Named Best Architecture in Krakow, Poland

The newly opened cultural arts center complex "Małopolski Ogród Sztuki / Małopolska Garden of Arts" in Krakow Poland, has been selected for the Prof. J. Bogdanowski Prize 2012 for the best architecture realized in Krakow. Designed by Ingarden & Ewý Architects, this new cultural institution houses a performing & media arts center, as well as a mediatheque, and is run by Krakow's Julius Slowacki Theater and the Malopolska Voivodship Public Library.
