<img src="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/99/996678cb7e371515bdac7c198104d40d.jpg?fit=crop&auto=compress%2Cformat&enlarge=true&w=1200" border="0" /><p>Building permits for <a href="https://archinect.com/moodynolan" target="_blank">Moody Nolan</a>’s Programs & Athletics Center contribution to the <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/785892/obama-presidential-center" target="_blank">Obama Presidential Center</a> in Chicago have been granted by local planning officials, reports <a href="https://chicago.urbanize.city/post/obama-presidential-center-athletics-center-scores-full-building-permit" target="_blank">Urbanize Chicago</a>. The project is to be realized at the south end of the 19-acre campus in Jackson Park by the end of 2025, an improvement from the firm's previously stated 2026 opening. Its 45,000-square-foot program includes gyms, an NBA regulation-sized basketball court, and several wellness-oriented community spaces. </p>

The new development replaces the old 29-acre <a href="https://therealdeal.com/la/2018/08/01/noted-baldwin-hills-sports-complex-to-be-revitalized/" target="_blank">Rancho Cienega Sports Complex</a> and was developed in conjunction with <a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/38008/burohappold" target="_blank">Buro Happold</a> and <a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/93230768/hood-design-studio" target="_blank">Hood Design Studio</a>.</p>
<p>The scheme critically includes what is being labeled as one of the city’s first Net Zero Energy (NZE) buildings — the all-new basketball wing of the larger, 40,000-square-foot facility — and is landscaped in a grid to evince five distinct ecologies: high desert, canyon, coastal, chaparral, and medicinal. </p>
