This is most certainly true when it comes to action on climate change. Over the past decade of Land Art Generator Initiative design competitions, we’ve seen it happen. The Land Art Generator Initiative and BUGA 23 are pleased to announce the launch of LAGI 2022. Submissions are due by September 4, 2022. The design competition is free to enter and has a top prize of $30,000 USD.

The LAGI 2022 Mannheim design competition—Beautiful Forms of Energy—is an opportunity to weave renewable energy into the city in ways that improve human thriving. As a part of the 2023 German Bundesgartenschau (BUGA 23), the design challenge includes a number of themes and ideas for inspiration aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Burning Man plans a permanent, sustainable location, with a design team from MIT leading the vision

The Land Art Generator Initiative collaborated with the Burning Man project to develop a design challenge that invites creative proposals for regenerative projects for Fly Ranch, an off-the-grid ranch in the Great Basin.

The competition brief asked for designers, creatives, and inventors to "integrate sustainable systems for energy, water, food, shelter, and waste management into works of art in the landscape. The objective is to build the foundational infrastructure for Fly Ranch, support Burning Man Project's 2030 sustainability goals, engage a global audience to work together towards systemic transformation, and serve as an inspiration for the developing field of regenerative design."

From regenerative venues, spaces for habitation to energy infrastructure, the design competition received nearly 200 design proposals. The Land Art Generator Initiative and Burning Man Project have partnered to launch a multi-disciplinary design challenge—LAGI 2020 Fly Ranch—that will create the foundational infrastructure of Fly Ranch.

You are invited to propose your regenerative artwork in this stunning landscape. In 2021 selected design teams will be provided an honoraria grant for the purpose of building a functional prototype on site.

MORE IS RICH proposes a radical congestion of a selected landscape strip in the Fresh Kills Park. Hypothesis: Inverting Central Park, Manhattan’s urban release valve, to create a Freshkills Intense Landscape charging point.

A programmatic infill with various power generation proposals of the strip has been developed in which the grand urban context of New York is reflected, with an exuberance and joie de vivre that befits a true cosmopolitan setting.

The concept has a duality in its nature, it is an entity as a whole and it is a connector in its parts; it reinforces underlying landscape features. The end result is a rich tapestry of intense landscape forms in a dynamic composition.
