<img src="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/hm/hmx81mopq4lqr5dn.jpg?fit=crop&auto=compress%2Cformat&enlarge=true&w=1200" border="0" /><p>Working toward fairer <a href="http://archinect.com/features/article/150005450/may-day-a-round-up-of-articles-on-working-conditions-and-labor-in-architecture" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">professional architectural practice</a> is an ongoing uphill climb in the industry, but which practices are already getting it right? The Architecture Lobby recently co-launched an initiative called <a href="http://justdesign.us" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">JustDesign.Us</a>, a certification process to distinguish architecture firms with exemplary labor practices, including fair pay, family-friendly policies, diversity, transparency, and agency.</p>
<p>Certification is a two-stage process. In Stage I, employees who want to nominate their firm will answer an online questionnaire — which The Architecture Lobby, the Yale School of Architecture’s Equity in Design, and the Harvard Graduate School of Design’s Women in Design developed. Submissions will remain anonymous. </p>

<img src="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/vk/vkqzsbm1z3shswr5.jpg?fit=crop&auto=compress%2Cformat&enlarge=true&w=1200" border="0" /><p>It's that time of year for <a href="http://designmuseum.org" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Design Museum</a>'s popular Designs of the Year 2015 awards, a showcase of noteworthy works created by international stars, up-and-coming startups, and students. A total of 76 projects from the previous year were selected for the categories Architecture, Digital, Fashion, Graphic, Product and Transport. Last year, Zaha Hadid <a href="http://archinect.com/news/article/103107452/zaha-hadid-wins-the-design-museum-s-designs-of-the-year-award-2014" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">took the top prize</a> with the all-too-familiar Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku, Azerbaijan.</p><p>Category winners will be announced on May 4, and the overall winner will be revealed during a Design Museum event on June 4. In the meantime, all nominated works will be exhibited at London's Design Museum beginning March 25.</p><p>The Architecture category has some solid contenders that could make it anyone's game (maybe), with some of them having already won some top awards. To honor this, the <a href="http://bwaf.org/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation</a> just launched Built By Women NYC, a project that highlights 100 outstanding buildings or built environments — historic or contemporary — located in New York City that were built/designed/constructed by women.</p><p>Until October 31, BxW NYC is accepting nominations of women who were directly responsible for leading the design (architecture, engineering, or landscape) or led the construction (either from the development or construction management team) for the structure or built environment.
