Marc Fornes/THEVERYMANY teams with Porsche for illuminating new pavilion design

French designer Marc Fornes and his Brooklyn studio THEVERYMANY have shared with Archinect images from a recent collaboration with Porsche on a pavilion design that was created for the automaker as part of Singapore Art Week.

There, his new My Two Cars Garage pavilion helped welcome the new Porsche all-electric Macan model. The pavilion derives its structural integrity from a unique monocoque shell shape that eliminates the need for internal supports or a traditional frame. Fornes refers to this process as "Frozen Tension."

As its name suggests, there is space for up to two cars with a sequence of "reveals" resulting from a geometrically complex, double-curved surface made from ultra-thin (1.5mm) aluminum strips. The pavilion's dimensions are equal to 43.6 feet in length, 35.4 feet in width, and 23 feet in height. It required a total of 202,203 rivets to assemble.

Cars are crafted to take us on a journey to different places; to travel, to discover, and to explore an exciting adventure. However, automotive exhibitions for far too long have been dwelling cars on the inside within confined and enclosed walls reflecting otherwise.

Re-imagining this traditional museum display of automobiles, and with an intent to instill the true experience of personal freedom conveyed by automobile, Jared Zaugg, an automotive lifestyle brand specialist and multifaceted expert envisioned the concept of setting the exhibit en Plein air (outdoors). Zaugg pictured the idea of “Porsches in Nature” an assortment of significant Porsche models placed amidst a breathtaking landscape, where the sense of scale is softened by the massive expanse of nature’s backdrop.

“What does [the Porsche] brand have to do with real estate?” It’s a good question, poised by the Miami developer Gil Dezer, who helped create the brand-new, 60-story, Sieger Suarez Architects-designed Porsche Design Tower in Sunny Isles Beach, Miami.

Their answer? An elevator for cars. You know, for “car lovers and people who enjoy having their car next to them in their apartments”.

Not surprisingly, this demographic is also defined by their access to at least $5 million, the starting price for one of the tower’s 132 condos. The crowning jewel, a $32 million penthouse apartment, comes with a “car gallery” for seven of your eleven automobiles.

Driven by three high-tech hydraulic lifts, the elevators weight 30,000 lbs. and carry up to 8,000 lbs. Cars zoom up the black-glazed tower at 800 feet a minute.

NMDA, 3XN, and MAD among first six teams competing for Porsche residential tower

Luxury brand Porsche Design recently launched a closed invite-only competition to find the architect for their Porsche Design Tower in Frankfurt, Germany. The winning proposal will have the most fitting urban architectural concept along with ideas for the surrounding outdoor spaces. The project will be Porsche's debut in real estate in Europe.

Out of a goal of 20 participating architecture teams, the first six firms to compete are:

3XN, Copenhagen (Denmark)
Neutelings Riedijk Architecten, Rotterdam (The Netherlands)
Stefano Boeri Architetti, Milan (Italy)

Porsche Pavilion at the Autostadt in Wolfsburg, Germany

We have received stunning photos of the new Porsche Pavilion at the Autostadt in Wolfsburg, Germany. The building which opened just recently is the first addition to Volkswagen's theme park since its opening in 2000. Designed by German HENN Architekten, the pavilion expresses the importance of Porsche within the Volkswagen Group family.
