<img src="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/55/554915488eb34454f5b6a8f4b76e903d.jpg?fit=crop&auto=compress%2Cformat&enlarge=true&w=1200" border="0" /><p><a href="https://archinect.com/eskewdumezripple" target="_blank">EskewDumezRipple</a> has announced plans for a new academic building for the <a href="https://archinect.com/GTArchitecture" target="_blank">Georgia Institute of Technology</a> in midtown Atlanta.</p>
<p>The 416,500-square-foot Tech Square 3 will anchor Phase 3 of the newly created Technology Square, which links back to Georgia Tech’s main campus. The design calls for a “vertically-oriented quad” that directly engages the 5th Street corridor through a characteristically Southern ‘porch’ socializing space located at the ground level. </p>

Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering connected by a central shared core. A vertical rooftop garden element completes the project, situated on top of an architectural staircase that helps unify the building with an outdoor promenade.<br></p>

<img src="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/38/38603b3c1a472b2c497ca45ee5e52cf7.jpg?fit=crop&auto=compress%2Cformat&enlarge=true&w=1200" border="0" /><p><a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/106488/mass-design-group" target="_blank">MASS Design Group</a> President and co-founder Michael Murphy has announced he will be stepping down from his post after 15 years to pursue new academic and professional initiatives in a move announced on Friday.</p>
<p>The announcement stated that MASS will continue under the leadership of Senior Principals and Managing Directors Christian Benimana and Patricia Gruits and Founding Principal and Chief Design Officer Alan Ricks. Murphy will now join the faculty at <a href="https://archinect.com/GTArchitecture" target="_blank">Georgia Tech</a> as its new Thomas W. Ventulett III Distinguished Chair.</p>
<p>The recent <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/150290678/mass-design-group-wins-aia-firm-award-gold-medal-goes-to-angela-brooks-and-lawrence-scarpa" target="_blank">AIA Firm Award</a> winners have become recognized throughout the design community for their commitment to restorative social justice projects and three core guiding principles of <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/150322850/beauty-matters-mass-design-group-featured-on-60-minutes" target="_blank">beauty</a>, dignity, and the increased flow of <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/150292406/mass-design-s-michael-murphy-says-we-re-failing-to-learn-the-epidemic-design-lessons-florence-nightingale-provided-150-years-ago" target="_blank">natural air</a> best exemplified in their designs for the <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/148020/butaro-hospital" target="_blank">Butaro District Hospital</a> and subsequent commissions across Rwanda and the United States.</p>

<p>Rocker joins Georgia Tech after working in the software industry and holding separate academic positions at the <a href="https://archinect.com/harvard" target="_blank">Harvard GSD</a> between 2005 and 2020. She co-founded her own Boston and Hong Kong-based practice, <a href="http://rocker-lange.com/index.php" target="_blank">Rocker-Lange</a>, in 2006 and will now look to enhance the school’s highly-technical course offerings by leveraging a reputation for engineering and building science that has long been associated with the 137-year-old Atlanta institution. </p>

Bassett as the next John Portman Dean’s Chair of the university’s College of Design.</p>
<p>A former Fulbright Scholar, Bassett has taught at <a href="https://archinect.com/psuarchitecture" target="_blank">Portland State University</a>, <a href="https://archinect.com/uva_sarc" target="_blank">UVA</a>, and <a href="https://archinect.com/schools/cover/10347767/michigan-state-university" target="_blank">Michigan State</a>. At UVA Bassett serves as the Associate Dean for Research in addition to her teaching role and is currently director of the school’s Real Estate Design and Development certificate program. </p>
<p>Bassett holds degrees from the <a href="https://archinect.com/taubmancollege" target="_blank">University of Michigan</a> and <a href="https://archinect.com/schools/cover/3115823/university-of-wisconsin-madison" target="_blank">University of Wisconsin-Madison</a>, respectively, and spent over a decade working in East Africa as an urban and environmental planner in addition to working closely with the World Bank and U.S. Department of State in consultant roles. </p>
